The (trouble free) 08 stator looks just like other Rotax stators, the 09/10 does not. So the '08 stators were trouble free? There are a number of forum members, including me, who would disagree with you on that. Having said that, I still agree with the intent of your post. Rotax isn't in the alternator business. They're in the engine business, and most likely source the alternator. But unless the alternator came off of the shelf at E. Troy and was installed by an elf, the focus is on Rotax as their supplier is dropping the ball. I am really glad I was able to get all of my problems fixed before last October! For those of you with hardware issues, I feel for you. |

I havent heard of too many engine problems, electrical yes, ECM yes, Brakes yes, frame heat yes, engine failures a few, but not a lot. |

Update: As I relayed to you guys I had my harness recall put on and stator replaced a few months ago. Last week, 2K miles after the initial fix, I took the 1125 in the shop for the same charging issue (but before the stator fried). The tech said there wouldn't be an actual fix... to keep the bike over 5K RPM so that the bike could charge while riding. They replaced the battery and delivered my bike. This morning I decided to take my bike to work... this is the first time i rode it since I got the bike back Monday. After riding a hectic 40 minutes (keeping the bike at 5K rpm as much as I could) what happens...?... ... the battery light is on once again... first signs that eventually the battery will go dead and if not tended to the stator will fry again. Absolutely unreal... now I cant even trust the thing to simply get me to work immediately after having a brand new battery put in. |

When I got the bike the first thing I did is put a headlamp auxiliary switch on it. (always do this on my bikes as is saves the battery when using diagnostic tools). I have a 2008 1125RI am up to 7000 miles and tomorrow will go on a 2000 mile trip. So far I am trouble free. Wish me luck! (Message edited by trafford on August 12, 2010) |

good luck Trafford. Harley tech just called me... he is printing out all of the worksheets done on my bike to date and going to their District office with the problem. I will let you guys know what I hear. I could use some luck as well... maybe I will get some news that can help all of us that have this situation. |

When I say, "its the engine", I mean its the engine and all of the components that make up the "engine" to make it operate. Take away one of these components and the engines doesnt run does it. Correct me if I am wrong, aren't most if not 95 to 99 % of the 1125 problems are "engine" related. Yes, the 1125 engine is a mechanical marvel (the weight, horsepower, torque, etc.), but the clutch and electronics have issues...DUHHHHH! Like I said, the 1125 engine is a BRP-ROTAX engine (see the attachment below). Question: You would think that the engine manufacturer would have a viable fix for these "engine" problems, wouldnt you, not Harley, not Buell, because every 1125 owner is in the same boat now (kind of like being held captive). http://www.rotax.com/en/Engine/2004/Motorcycle/Eng ine.Models.htm |

The stator is not a necessary component to engine operation. There are race bikes that do not have a charging system.

Stator - nope Turn signals - nope Wheel bearings - nope Snapping belts - nope Clutch leaking - Technically transmission, but being an integral part of the engine I'll say yes. Wheels that won't hold air - nope Rusting mufflers - nope Poor fuel mapping on early models - nope Fuel pumps - nope I can't think of any other potential issues regardless of how minor or major. Also about the electronics, most of the electrical system was not provided by Rotax. |

Frogbuster - ROTAX would certainly shoulder most of the blame as Stevasaurus also noted if the alternator's came from ROTAX. If HDB did the sourcing HD and it's vendor is to blame. There is an 800 lb gorillas in the room that nobody wants to talk about. China has almost no product liability law. Buyers 'in the know' stipulate alternate locations for dispute resolution. It could very well be that HD has been left 'holding the bag', a bag full of crap. Perhaps the HD legal department has been too busy chasing their trademark abusers? |

Froggy OK, OK, I hear you, but my point is simply, you would think that "whoever" manufactures the failed part, would provide a fix, but then again most "everything" we buy these days is a conglomeration of parts from all over the world. I guess, because I am not rich, that I have "smelled the coffee" and got out while I could with the least amount of hurt while foreseeing the future parts, service problems. I guess practically speaking, when I traded my 1125, I went with a Ford and got rid of my problematic "exotic". |

I don't blame a fella for selling a Buell, I do wonder even scratch my head at buying a Harley to replace it though. There is no Harley that can replace MY BUELL. |

I do understand your point Frogbuster. I agree it would be great if there was a better fix for the stator issue other than the harness, but I've done 1500 miles on my new stator with the harness and its been rock solid so far. Too soon to say for sure if its good or not, but so far I am happy. |

Hey Froggy... I had my stator\harness job done... above 500~ish miles later I started noticing the battery light coming on again. 2,000 miles after the fix it stayed on regularly AND eventually almost left me stranded. Bike wouldn't start. I finally got it to turn over and rode it home with the battery light on non-stop... sweating buckets the whole way. this is when I took it in to Harley last week. A few more miles and the stator no doubt would have fried. It showed all the signs that happened the last time my stator fried. So I hope you continue to have luck but... I didn't. Like I said... their fix this time around was putting in a new battery. 40 miles later... battery light coming on again (today). |

The stator thing I am gonna fix myself if mine goes bad in the near future my Buell has a twich or two but Harley will kill it and try to sell me a chrome cow that I would brake regularly plain and simple. |

Whats happening in February? That's when Erik Buell's non-compete agreement with HD terminates, and Erik can once again build street bikes. Once he starts up again, I'm hoping that, in some capacity, he'll be inclined and able to support the 1125 line. |

Nothing special, the non-compete was terminated in either May or June this year, heard it direct from the man himself at homecoming this year. He's free to build whatever he wishes at this point and has been for some time now. Just a guess, but that 1190 video that had "Hmmm, tail lights, turn signals, and oh, what's this, a working fan on the radiator?" might give you a clue on which direction they're headed. I'd love to see it take off myself. I didn't get to ride one, but it was unbelievably light (sub 380 lbs) to the point where they are forced to add maybe 35-40 lbs or so just to make the weight limitations. Think light as a feather with gobs of power at the wheel. |

Interesting, but not true Baggh, I understand you are frustrated (understandably), but there is something else wrong with your bike that you are continuing to have those issues. I run my bike way below 5000rpm, never use a tender, and never see the battery light. If I had to take a uneducated guess, I would say the stator harness is not correctly installed. Threadjack - Looking at your profile Baggh, it says you are a video game artist. May I ask what some things you have worked on? (Former full time pc gamer ) |

Interesting, but not true Well, I thought I had read that somewhere... the date may be wrong, but, at any rate, as Dean has pointed out, Erik's free to build streetbikes now. Hopefully, this will turn out to be great news for us. |

Interesting notions on here in regards to Erik coming back swinging once his non-compete expires. I was telling my riding buds a bit ago that I bet he comes back and that 1190R\ Barracuda spearhead his return. I'm also going to toss out some wishful thinking that he gives top $$$ trade in value on 1125's on his new line. This will get his new bikes out on the street super quick to begin showcasing their badassness. btw... another update... the head tech at my HD dealer wants to have a lengthy discussion tomorrow about my bike's problems and where we can go from here. Keeping my fingers crossed. Pariah... I don't mind you're asking at all... Anvil of Dawn Chronomaster WarWind WarWind 2 Sanitarium Daikatana Metroid Prime Age of Empire III Halo Wars... The game I am currently working on gets announced next week... thats always a fun time of the game development process (Message edited by baggh on August 13, 2010) |

Well, I have 8500 mile on the 1125R and as of yet, very little issues. Knock on wood! It seems to me that reading this thread is like watching the news. The few who have had issues (all be it, severe issues with some of you) have taken the appearance of the majority when you are actually the minority. What I mean is, in the big scheme of things, very few of us have had these types of issues with our bikes but by reading these dire threads, it introduces the fear factor. Now, those of us who have not endured these major issues are afraid of what might be instead of being pleased with what has been. As for me, I have had a great experience with my 08 1125R that I too paid full price for brand new. While I could fall victim to the fear of a failed bike (that I ride almost daily), I know that all vehicles have flaws and if I do my best to maintain this motorcycle with all of the necessities then God willing, I will have a great bike for a long time. So, all I am saying is those of us who have had the pleasure of enjoying our great machines may want to concentrate on properly caring for our bikes and appreciate the fact that we have not had to be consumed with all if the issues these unfortunate gentlemen have had to deal with. Just a thought.... |

Baggh I really admire Eric. I hope he comes back super strong and I also hope he can do it basically alone and does not have to hook up with anyone big. I know it takes lots and lots of money, but I think his engineering talent and tenacity can overcome most anything, but you do have to have resources. Maybe soon we can all see an "initial stock offering" so Eric can muster the capital needed and all of us can chip in, just a thought, I wish him the very best. |

So, let me see if I have this right. You traded an 1125 on a fat boy? How's that working out for you? Found the limits of cornering on the fat boy yet? Gotten used to picking up 800 lbs of dead weight off the ground yet? So you basically traded your Buell in for a bike that KILLED BUELL!!! Notice I said KILLED and not sold off, or gotten rid of. I'm almost sure there were offers for Buell before hardley ableson killed them. But being the vindictive a$$holes that they were, hardley ableson just killed them. The day I trade in ANY bike on ANY hardley is the day I put a bullet in my head. hardley ableson has completely lost my business for good. |

There is a permanent fix for the '09 charging problems...it has been discussed and proven....use an '08 stator and rotor....done....E.B.R. has them in stock for a very reasonable figure. If you can afford a new bike and the goodies and gear to jazz it up...the mod is not very expensive... |

Well I did over 2000 miles (3000 kilometers)during my week vacation. The night before I left I realised the battery was not taking a full charge. So I decided to fit my spare XB12R one. This has never been used and has been on a tender for 3 years!! Well the difference was very noticeable. I have a battery condition clock on my bike and the other battery always dropped percentage with every few starts. This 'new' one shows 13 volts with the ignition off (12.6-12.7 previously). So this worked well and I will leave it on. 50 miles from home the rear wheel belt side bearing destroyed itself . I had ridden very fast from Switzerland to Holland. Anyway I had to ride slowly the last 50 and made it back, Today the local dealer put two new bearings in. |

I'm getting ready to take the 1125R out to Germany in a coupleof weeks, by "getting ready" I mean getting a new back tire as everything else is working fine....well TBH the rear left blinker is "out" but that's OK I have an integrated tail light coming LOL.. All I have to do now is load up the Ventura, ride to Dover get off the train in Calais and hit the road. I've managed to get through France in 30 mins before so hope to top that, Belguim, Holland then Germany. A week long party in Germany than the return leg, should be an absolute blast (Message edited by jules on August 22, 2010) |
