got my 1125cr today. it was in the mid 90's in chicago. the bike. is. a. BEAST. however, in the nearly two hours it took to go 60 miles (traffic was staggeringly bad) i have to admit, i was getting ROASTED on the bike. the right side of the frame was VERY VERY hot, almost too hot to touch, and the volumes of HOT air coming off the radiator shrouds was amazing. it pulls like a locomotive and is as easy to handle as a bicycle and makes noises to die for. but the heat's killing me!!! also, i'm concerned about the exhaust venting right onto the rear frame/swingarm and brake line. seems a bad place to vent HOT gasses. i was thinking of replacing the exhaust just to be able to channel the hot exhaust away from the bike. any thoughts? anyone got a manageable solution to the heat coming off the bike and making riding it uncomfortable? cheers! and i am happy to be part of the 1125cr crew | ||

unfortunately if you're not moving it's going to be hard to deal with the heat especially in 90degree weather. in CA we can split traffic - i guess in IL you can't do that? cheers, c. | ||

i wouldn't split a fukn' cherry coke with the idiots on the road in chicago LOL. even so, i took it out again later this evening and was able to go 50-xxx mph and it was still QUITE warm. not as hot as it was during the day in the heat and crazy traffic, but the frame on the right side was still VERY warm. i was only riding about 8 miles this evening from a friend's house. ... | ||

Now that was funny! Vac, the guys here inform me that the 09 R's and therefore all CR's have frame insulation already. I'm working on a solution for the hot seat and just did a thread on that tonight. There is no one "cure all" that I can see that will fix the problem. Things like an Erik Buell Racing ECM or Fuel Solutions map reportedly make the engine run cooler. Ceramic coating the headers will help some. Some insulation on the OUTSIDE of the frame, perhaps underneath some Gripster pads, would help. To my mind, the best solution would be to adapt what some of the Buell racers are doing where they change the fairing to radiator shrouds that direct the hot air OUT around the rider and not back into the engine compartment. But these set-ups do not have cooling fans (at least not yet). Not much help I know. I have the Erik Buell Racing ECM and Barker pipe coming in the mail and will report back later. -Tutt (Message edited by CowboyTutt on August 08, 2010) | ||

@Vactor - I find it almost impossible to ride in jeans - too darned hot. I'd rather sweat it out in leathers than fry my thigh. Sort of off topic: I think Chicago is the only place in the country where it takes an hour just to get to someplace where you can ride. When I first got my CR it put out a lot more heat than it does now. I don't know why but the heat went down as the bike broke in. It's still warm but not intolerable and where I live it's triple digits just about every day. I want to get the E-B-R ecm to lower the temps even more. | ||
