any bike, car, truck i've ever owned i bought the manual.clymer,haynes,o.e.m.i don't understand why anyone would own a motorcycle and not have one.even with the technology on the new bikes its nice to have them to figure out what i'm capable of working on.the first thing i done after buying this ride was go order the set, when they came in i sat in the truck at dealer in pouring rain for a hour,it was porn.with the set and the search function you can get in a whole lot of trouble.whew, rant over!! |

Agreed. It scares me a bit when I see people posting on here trying to do stuff such as motor rotation without the manual. Sure, it can be done, but it is asking for trouble. |

It's a good idea, even if you never do any work yourself - at least you know what your mechanic should be doing. |

OK - very sad, I don't have the manuals yet. Which is the set? I've been looking on eBay and which ones are required. I'm going to have another shop do the work instead of taking it to the dealer, they REALLLLLY SUCK. TIA Jeff |

got the manual for my first bike 6 months before I got the bike when I was 16 years old, Its ridiculous to imagine working on such as an 112R without the factory manual. First thing I did when I ordered the 1125R was order all three manuals. I am at work at the moment but will look up the codes for them when I get home, can't post till Monday. The mechanical manual is a must, the electrical is good to have, the parts manual is kinda optional, but again, nice to have handy. You know for sure what parts you'd need if you gotta order something. I have the first 2, probably ought to order the parts one. I usually ask Froggy to give me the parts list if I need it though. |

I just have the mechanical one at the moment, next on the list is the electrical one and like Froggy says the Parts one is a nice to have. I ALWAYS buy the manual, normally just prior to buying the bike so I can get to know exactly how it's put together, it's great bedtime reading and really helps to understand when you have an issue. Forums are really useful - IF you have something to cross-refer to as sometimes the info posted isn't accurate (it's inevitable). Heck - I even used the manual to read how to remove the exhaust, which lets face it is just undoing 4 bolts and 2 clamps in reality. Having the manual there is a confidence booster and helps you start the job in the right frame of mind. |

The manual is a definite must...But I won't lie, the exhaust pissed me off trying to remove it by the manual. Until I searched on this board how to get that stupid non-captive nut off...Seriously, who designed that piece. (Message edited by westmoorenerd on August 05, 2010) |

Have a cabinet full of manuals , almost every vehicle I've ever owned (even the old Plymouth Sundance :-/) I find the parts manual probably the MOST useful. It usually has great exploded views so you can visualize whats what and the parts numbers are invaluable when dealing with inept H-D parts people trying to tell me an 1125 only has one oil drain plug and giving me the wrong washer for even the one plug he could find! |

I think the parts manual in indispensable. They treat you differently when you ask for "CA0077.1AM" rather than "the screw that holds the front of the muffler on the right side. You know, the one behind the thingy". |

I couldn't agree more. My bro wrecked my bike, and i went in to my dealer with a list of parts i needed before i had the parts manual. they couldn't find half the parts i needed because they don't know the buell parts books. I got the parts manual and it made things much easier. |

Got them - it is still nice to have helpful hints for making things go smoother that are never in the manual. EZ |

+1 Frog. Why look it up and figure it out yourself, when you can just get someone else to look it up for you and tell you how to do it? I always buy the service manual for all vehicles I purchase - money well spent - part numbers, how to, etc. Good stuff, usually. Milt - you are spot-on. |

A Google search will likely lead you to one or more of them. The problem is, they are like a huge collection of photocopies - you can't just click on the table of contents or index and go to the place you'd like to go. Also, they're pirate copies of copyrighted material, for what that's worth. |
