Gah. I asked the SM if they needed to order anything when I made my appointment two weeks ago for the 12K service and was told they had everything in stock. I guess a gasket kit for the 1125r isn't "everything" but at least they sourced one and it'll be there in the AM.
My guess is they'll discover they need to order shims tomorrow...
This aint rocket science. Oh well that's what I get for being one of 3 1125r owners in the area.
Had to wear my 25th Anniversary ball cap today to alleviate my separation anxiety.
The shims are the same as the v-rod, so they should have some on hand. What gasket "kit" did they need? The valve cover gaskets are rubber and can be re-used. Afaik there isn't anything else they would need unless they took off you primary chain cover. If they did, you're in a world of hurt.
Thanks for putting my nerves to rest there Dean. About the shims I mean. They have not started work yet so I can't explain or understand what they plan to do...I'm at the mercy of my mechanic. Hence my anxiety...
I am guessing they have no clue about this service. The mechanic is a racer and I trust his skills, but he has not put enough miles on his 1125r to perform that service. I'm the guinea pig.
Honestly, if he has a service manual and can read, he should be fine. It's not like it's rocket science or something hard to do. It's just time consuming. If you have basic mechanical skills, some hand tools and a bit of patience, anyone can do it. My wife could do it if I forced her to get her hands dirty, but I won't do that to her. I lounged my way through it back in January and had it done in less than 8 hours. 3 actual days of downtime since I only had about 4 hours a day for it and I had to use one day to run to the dealer for shims. Nothing to it really.
Mountain I hope they do the work they are meant to @ 12k, alot of dealers out there charge you for the job but dont do all that is required eg: valve clearances... I know from past experiences they dont cos I worked for a Suzuki & Honda stealership. I will do my own as thats my trade & need to use mine as the guinnea pig cos I have a few others I need to do. Should be fun....
It's not that I am mechanically iggerant, it's just that I'm stuporstishus about issues with my warranty in the future. Let them break it I say...
If it were out of warranty I'd be right on it.
In the past I've had a few experiences with HD SMs that put their relationship with the motor company above treating the customer fairly. Not saying Roanoke HD/Buell is one of them...but fool me once, shame one you, fool me twice, lock me up for manslaughter.
I found a great way to reduce my anxiety. I took the Wife's P3 for a 150 mile ride through the mountains. It's such a fun bike. There's something to be said for rolling the throttle open...and waiting...and waiting. eventually reaching terminal velocity well below the top speed of the 1125r in 2nd gear
Day three. Just called to find out what happened and the mystery gaskets that were supposedly overnighted for yesterday only arrived a little while ago. Typical.
I asked the SM if he could explain to me where exactly the gaskets are going on the engine. I let him know that from what I could figure out the covers have rubber reusable gaskets (thanks Dean) so I need to know what gaskets they are replacing. He didn't know and will check on that and call me back.
If it is the guy I am thinking about working on your bike it should be fine. Think his name is Keith and he comes on this site. Worked on my Uly one time when I was on the road and did a great job.
He's a great mechanic and I have faith in his skills.
Unfortunately I still am waiting on them to finish up. Not to be a whining pussy but when I schedule a service weeks in advance I really don't want to get held up for days like this for something that should be a one day deal. Seems inevitable though...
So sometime tomorrow I should have my baby back. Fingers crossed...
My R has been at my dealer for the past 3 weeks and it has not even got on the rack yet. I made an appointment for them to pick it up 2 weeks before that. That is a total of 5 weeks and it still has not been looked at. Just getting my CR back on friday that went to them the same time as the R. Now they will look at the R next week and tell me they need parts that will not be in for weeks. This sucks. Glad I have my HD Street Rod to ride.
Yup. It could be worse. The two shops on long island said not to bring them in because they do not have a buell tech and the techs they have can't work on them. The one said if he could do it I would have to wait 6 weeks for an appointment. Something about getting a lot of bikes ready for a trailor ride west for a rally . Ha
So when you say "it could be worse" I understand exactly what you mean. What's another day compared to waiting over a month for someone to just look at your bike.
All's well that ends well. Got the bike. Got the bill...it was less than I feared so all is good. No mention of shims on the bill, no record of the lash before either. Oh well. At least it's on record I had the service. That was a concern.
