Hey all i'm having some weird problem with my 08' 1125R. The bike has 4200 mi on it, Erik Buell Racing ECM tuned for the FMF pipe. When the bike is warmed up and I just lightly blip the throttle the bike will randomly die, I have had it happen while in gear and also in neutral just sittin in my driveway...any ideas what would cause this...thanks Josh. |

Yea, a big bore v-twin when rapidly blipped WILL choke and die. There's a thread floating around here about this. It's not so much an issue with the bike as just the nature of things. *ROLL* on the throttle. No snapping. All will be fine. |

Mine did that today to me for the first time. I was parked in the motorcycle parking area at work. I had the bike running and I was maneuvering around other bikes parked there so I could get out. I unintentionally blipped the throttle while pushing the bike and it stalled. E.BR Race ECM also. |

That is simply not true Jdugger. This is my fourth big v-twin and none of the other three have ever died by blipping the throttle. |

I blip the throttle all the time on mine, never had it stall once. |

Go, Depends on the blip. You have owned 4 twins that don't do it when you blip, and yet I can do it to current model Buells and Ducati easily. A very quick snap blip from idle will stall most of them. |

Mine has done this with the stock and the Erik Buell Racing ECM. It is worse when it is cold (duh) . It just don't like to be bliped . FYI the 2 xb bikes I had before did not mind being bliped. |

I can blip on the throttle with the bike in my garage on the side stand in neutral it will die once about every 10 or 15 tries. I have had it happen at a stop light also...kinda sucks. |

Easy fix... DON'T BLIP THE THROTTLE!!! |

Mine likes to die when I blip it...Imagine my MSF instructor buddy today when he tried doing a low speed friction zone demonstration for a military safety rodeo using my bike as an example...He killed it like 6x in a row, then couldn't do a cone course with it due to the horrible turning radius. Of course he called bullshit before hand when I told him it couldn't be done on the Buell. |

Do you have the ECM with the lower idle speed? One reason that they raised it. |

Blips just need to be different. When I'm down shifting I just hold a cracked throttle position and let the motor free rev up a bit as I let the clutch out. The "snap/pop" blips you see racers do on an I4 just don't work as well on this bike. |

Search ( I can kill my 1125R at will ) it was my post, there is one guys on that post that make all three of his 1125s do it. Mine does it also but only once in awhile sitting still, I blipped it all day at the track and in the mountains never had a problem because I was blipping at a higher rpm and not sitting still. |

> there is one guys on that post that make all three of his 1125s do it. That's me. > I blipped it all day at the track and in the mountains never had a problem because > I was blipping at a higher rpm and not sitting still. Correct. They only stall on a quick snap blip from idle. |

I will check the idle speed tonight...what should it be set at? Im thinkin mine is like1100 rpm. |

your idle needs to be about 1200-1300rpm to help keep that from happening i had mine set that low too and had to have it bumped up a little to get it to stop that as our throttle bores are so large if the air volocity isn't high enough and blipping the throttle off idle will kill the motor sometimes... |

Could be TPS reset. My 08' with stock ECM b4 last flash would sometimes die. With the last flash and or Erik Buell Racing ECM no problem. |

my SV would die with a blip off idle. A bit scary when you're trying to merge into traffic. I bumped the idle up to resolve it. A CR I test rode did this as well. Haven't had it happen on mine though. Maybe the rider smoothed out a bit |

Why blip at all? On a cold motor its just unhealthy for the bike. On a warmed up motor, you look like you are trying to impress yourself or others. If you have any of the aftermarket pipes, you are just being an a-hole. Now there used to be a real problem with the early model ;08s where the bike would die as you were approaching a stop. Now that was a real safety concern. However after the round of ECM flash, problem gone. |

WESTMOORENERD, i put the 1125R through the Experienced riders course at my base. Not an easy task due to having to ride the clutch all of the time and the instructors not understanding that the Buell doesn't like 2nd gear at 17 mph. Much less did they understand that i don't want to perform a hard corner doing 17 mph with the engine choking at like 2k rpms. I never had a problem with the cones, although i was lock to lock with the steering, the u turn box was quite a challenge, but doable. I noticed my bike only dies like these guys said, from an idle to a "blip" as you guys have dubbed it. |

A state of the art, modern machine and people saying it is normal and / or acceptable that you can stall the engine by opening the throttle, I have been riding and driving for over thirty years, never owned any bike or car, including HD's, that did this, would not ever accept this. Reality check needed by some people here. My 12R did this, increased the off idle afv, problem solved, I blame the environmental nazi's, not Buell, but Would I accept this as normal, never. |

I agree, blip at idle should not cause engine to stop. I always blip just before shifting from neutral to 1st gear; doing so significantly softens engagement of 1st gear, especially when the engine is still cold. For a racing machine it shouldn't matter as rpm will always be elevated. (Message edited by Blake on July 30, 2010) |

Well thanks for all the ideas and opinions, as usual Buellers on this site are always down to help. Gunna bump my idle up a bit and see what happens. |

Westmoorenerd and Motorhead, not to piss in your Cheerios, but I took the MSF Rider Coach course on my 1125R and NEVER had a problem getting through a week of riding. My instructor also told me it was fine to ride the course in 1st gear as he understood it is hard for any sportbike to hit second smoothly during any of the exercises. I said hard, not impossible. I would think your coaches would know enough about motorcycles not to be concerned with that. |

Have you done a TPS reset? That should be your first step after installing the new ECM. I haven't seen anyone mention that yet and it should be an obvious concern. When I first install my ECM my TPS was off so much the bike would barely run. Did a TPS reset. Started right up and runs AWESOME with the Erik Buell Racing ecm. TPS reset fixed my problem anyway. Now I have none. ST |

Maul- I never said the course was an MSF course, it was actually a course downloaded off the internet of a police training course. We actually had to widen it for even a 250 Ninja to get through it, but the CR couldn't come close to getting through lock to lock. That and blipping the throttle up as you're in the friction zone caused it to die 90% of the time. On the other hand though, we had a Advanced Rider Track Day sponsored by the Air Force, Navy, National Guard, and California Sportbike School this week too. They set up a nice sized cone course with speeds up to 100mph... The CR really shined in that situation. (Message edited by westmoorenerd on July 30, 2010) |

How are you going to raise your idle, it's set by ECM I think. |

I have a brother that is a Harley tech, im pretty sure he has the software to get it done...if not im sure Erik Buell Racing could if i sent it back to them. |

I have to kinda visualize the fuel tables. When you "blip" the throttle, you are CALLING for a LOAD of gas for the new throttle position, and the engine is still at a low RPM. "blip" can mean 10 degrees or 45 degrees of Throttle Position. HUGE difference in your fuel tables for a given RPM. NOBODY here can quantify a "blip" so the discussions are pretty meaningless for troubleshooting. But yeah, setting the idle UP a bit can't hurt. (Message edited by slaughter on July 30, 2010) |

WTF is "the friction zone" and why does it require "blipping the throttle"? What is the cones course, for bicycling? Sounds a bit ridiculous. |
