I just received my Erik Buell Racing ECM for my 08 1125r. Is there instructions to install some where on this board? I did a search and did not find the information I was looking for. So far I know to disconnect the battery and do a TPS re-set. Do I need to do anything else? Also need to know where the ECM is. I know the information is here I just haven't been able to find it. |

you do not have to disconnect the battery , just pull off left pod cover use a 10mm socket and remove nut holding ecm in place carefully wiggle the ecm out from the bike and squeeze the clips on each connector unplugging them reinstall ecm in reverse order THEN turn key on and do the tps relearn and you will be ready to go.. |

ECM is under left radiator cover/pod. 1) remove the 6 t27/t30 torx screws to remove cover 2) remove 2 10mm nuts holding ecm 3) unclip 2 harness connectors and remove stock ecm 4) reverse for installation of race ecm 5) tps reset: key on full rotation of throttle from stop to stop 3 times 6) enjoy |

Some have complained that the brass stud holding the ECM is easily broken from it's plastic housing. It is especially important to use Anti-Seize compound on those small delicate brass threads. Anti-Seize makes for very easy threading. Correctly done you will feel NO resistance starting the nut on. Any resistance at all starting the nut on implies cross-threading. |

Mine didn't need a TPS reset after installation either ... E B R said it wouldn't, but I had my doubts until I saw it with my own eyes. And about disconnecting the battery, you don't have to do it any more than you have to wear eye protection when grinding, but it falls in the "better safe than sorry" category to me. The last time I didn't disconnect a battery post when installing an E C M (on a car), I ended up with a fried box and a host of internet threads saying it was unnecessary. Mike |

Has anybody noticed how much longer/often the fans seem to run with the Erik Buell Racing ECM, left my ignition on this morning whilst putting my gloves and helmet back on after filling up, the battery light came on !!!!!!!!! and the fans stayed running for ages, the fuel was boiling in the frame when i pulled in so it was hot but they never used to run for that long. And when on a ride they just seem to be on most the time ? Coolant is fine and the rads are clean and the fins not blocked. |

What was the air temp in your area? Not from the dash, but from the news. |

I just got my ECM from Erik Buell Racing. I sent an email to tech and they sent me back some instructions. TPS reset AND IAC reset, where you let the bike idle for 10 minutes. No mention of disconnecting the battery, but I'll do it anyway, won't hurt. Also on the Barker pipe, I read a thread that said they don't come with the nut that's welded to the stock pipe. It's sealed in the bag, you kind of have to look for it. I also replied to Erik Buell Racing and said they should include those instructions with the ECU. While it's true they are a racing company, a lot of street guys are turning to them for stuff and they should try to be receptive to that. They got right back to me and agreed. Now all I have to do is get the pipe and put it all on and have some fun. Decided on the Barker after reading the shoot out. |

Just remember that if you are installing emissions modifying parts on a bike to be run on public roads, it's at least mildly illegal. It might be a bit hard for them to be openly supportive of that practice. |

It might be a bit hard for them to be openly supportive of that practice. Selling it to people without a race licence is likely to make them seem "openly supportive" so chucking some instructions in wouldn't make it any worse.. especially as they could use that piece of paper to re-iterate the "not for street use" message.. |

Letskeepriding - could you post those instructions from E-B-R? I am interested in the IAC reset part. THX |

> Selling it to people without a race licence is likely to make them seem "openly supportive" Well, my only thought is that the parts are really for track days. I had a track-day only bike for a long time before I got my race license, for example. |

IAC reset caught my attention too. What's that all about? |

Two things need to be done after install of this race ECM to make sure everything works properly: 1) TPS re-set Turn key on and make sure kill switch is on run. Do not start bike. Turn throttle to full open and hold about one second. Release throttle completely so it snaps shut. Repeat full throttle, hold and release two more times. Turn key off for at least two seconds. Then you can turn on and start. 2) IAC averaging re-set Start bike and let it idle for ten minutes. |
