Avc, I expect mine will be failing sometime in the future, as well. |

Yeah, so much for taking it to VT next week for a motorcycle trip. Who would ACTUALLY WANT to ride their motorcycle in the summer in the Northeast. |

Mine failed after 500 miles of the harness install. I took my bike in and it only took 3 days to get it back with a new stator.I put on roughly 600 miles so far with quite a bit of city driving and the stator is holding up so far..... |

Maybe your dealer can sell my dealer a stator... |

Have anyone taken their bike to the dealer with a pipe because of this issue, and got the BS that your bike's issue was caused by the pipe?? Just asking, since I am taking the ECM out but not the pipe and dropping off the bike to the dealer tomorrow. I called today and told them what was going on with the bike and the service guy asked me, have you done something with the bike? Because you know that aftermarket parts can damage stuff, you know? I am not saying that they are going to give me BS about it.. just made nervous his question!! The dealer is Whitts in Manassas VA, they've been very good when they did the harness recall, but the bike was stock. I have the stock pipe, but I destroyed the gasket when I took it out and I'd need to buy one to re-install it.. |

Yeah, and I answered that I have a pipe. The guy was nice and told me that I needed to have patience since parts take a long time to get but you never know. Oh well, we will see... I will ask him to let me know before doing ANY non-warranty work. |

Well, finally got my 09 1125R back from dealer after the new stator was installed. They were pretty good as it took just a week and a half to get parts. Unfortunately after just 80 miles since stator replacement bike is back at dealer. Got home after a short 25 mile ride and my left foot was soaked in oil! 170 commute and $30 bucks in diesel later, I'm hoping they can get it right (will need another 170 mile commute and another non refundable $30 to pick back up!). They ordered a new gasket saying the first replaced may have been defective. Damn it!....the summer is slowly passing me bye! Maybe this would have been the better route? http://www.EBRacing.com/shop/product140.html

The problems are getting worst with my 2009 1125cr. All seemed to be fine until the wiring harness was changed. “this stops the bike from cooking the alternator” after it was changed the voltage was all over the place. Eventually the battery warning light came on at idle. And then the battery went flat. New alternator and rectifier – voltage more stable but about 1.4 volts down on what I would expect 12.5- 12.6 volts with the revs anywhere between 4 and 7 thousand RPMs. After a 40 minute ride and 30 miles covered the voltage at idle dropped to 11.9 – 12.0 volts. THIS IS NOT RIGHT dispite what the dealer says. Any comments? |

Jaytea, Check this thread. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/581926.html?1279805060 Maybe the dealer made an error. |

Thanks for the link..... I shall be out in the garage checking this out first thing AM. Can't say I am too happy when these guys do something?? test ride it for an hour come back and say it is fine. I ride it for 5 minutes and know it is not right. |

Throw me in for charging system failure at ~8200mi on an 09 CR. She got me back to civilization though, sputtered and died like a tired horse as soon as I got to a safe side street to park. Last voltage I saw was in the high 8 range before the IC shut off, a few minutes before she died. Impressive stuff! |

So which way are y'all with 09s leaning? Replace the stator with another 09 or get an 08 stator/rotor pair? Or try a different regulator? Our Service department just got the first wave, I'd like to see what y'all think.. I have an 08 with zero electrical issues, so I'm biased |

As a service department I don't think you have much choice if the bike is under warranty. You will be forced to install another 09 stator, no? If the bike is out of warranty I would be sending it off to one of the rewinders that offers a warranty. MUCH cheaper and it can't be any worse than an 09 stator! ac |

It it were my bike, I would agree with Avc8139, at least until we start seeing failures from the rewinders. Seems just as likely to work, and a heck of a lot cheaper. It would be interesting to get one of the stator builders to look at the dead units and offer an opinion as to root cause of failure. |

Mine is in for stator repair right now. I will be asking the dealer for the original back to "make a clock". Hopes are high, expectations are low. ac |

I will be purchasing a 5 year extended warranty. They can put new stators in until it becomes a lemon for all I care. |

Ultimo Did you remove the wire harness after the install of the rewound stator? |

I kept it in the bike, It seems to have no effect on the volts wether you have it hooked up or not. I tried both ways for about 100 miles each and saw no change. |

Really appreciate all the various input regards this harness/stator issue. I'm torn what to do with my '09...harness upgrade or not?? Now 11,000 miles & NO problems (hope saying this doesn't jinx me!) K&N filter (courtesy of Zac at HC.) De-noided last year at 8700 miles. HMF slip-on added at 6000 mi, but stock ECM (even with latest firmware) didn't like it apparently cuz produced amber engine light at random times (although engine ran fine)...but new race ECM from Erik Buell Racing added 2 months ago & no more engine light, and BEST running engine ever -smoother stronger power thru entire band. I use Amsoil 20w50 & try to keep the rpm's up cuz some say it helps oil flow & stator cooling. Again... 11,000 no-prob miles. Harness upgrade or NOT?? Hmm... |

Does the stator fry due to low or high RPM action? or does it even matter? |

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" So what a happens when the stator frys and HD doesn't replace it cause you were offered the harness and refused to get it fixed? |

The letter never said the harness upgrade was required to keep your warranty intact. |

So I just read that the ECM connection gets another wire added for control of the new harness setup, but I have also read a new flash is not required. How does the new wire funcation if there isn't a new ECM flash. Also, the question above is pointing towards the use of an Erik Buell Racing Race ECM and it its use will negate any benefit of getting the harness update. If I use the Erik Buell Racing ECM, is this new harness useless? |

I would really like to see this resolved - either a new style stator, or rewinding. How is the rewound lasting - would like to see what the average voltage is rewound. How hard is it to replace the stator - just pop the cover off? How hard is it to remove the harness. EZ |
