A friend of mine finally received a new IC & I was kindly given the job of installing it for him. Once fitted I turned on the ignition & the bike started no problems but we have encountered other problems within the IC display - 1. The time display is not showing the time but displays 30.00 min's & it is counting down when the ignition is on. If I disconnect the reconnect the battery it resets back to 30.00 min's & counts down again. I'm paranoid just in case it locks out the security system once it has counted down to Zero?? 2. The Toggle switch works the normal info menu but the Mode switch is not changing the miles/trip & service due display. It does nothing? 3. I Cannot get into the Set Up Menu as the Mode switch is doing nothing? 4. Mileage & Trip meter shows - - - - - - only & no mileage has begun to build up (I was expecting it to pick up the original mileage from the ECM??) 5. Service Now flashes occasionally? The bike has never had the security system activated & the IC is not asking for a PIN no to be entered? It also starts & rides as normal Any idea what we are doing wrong or where the problem lies here? Should I let the timer count down to Zero & see if that resets the IC?? I keep disconnecting the battery to reset the timer when it gets close to zero-ing out!! Thanks guys |

Don't worry brother, it is the normal synching period all IC's do when put on a used bike. For security/diagnostic purposes the 30 min countdown was put on there. Let her countdown and after it hits zero it will synch with the ECM. No worries |

let it count down, once it counts down the ic will sync to your ecm. Once it syncs to the ecm, it will pull the milage from the ecm and display it. |

That confuses me. I have heard people swapping clusters...and the mileage comes from the ECM...but then people swap ECMs and the mileage comes from the cluster. How the heck does this system work? What if you swap BOTH? ac |

Both the ecm and the cluster have the mileage on them, if you swap either one, they get the mileage from the other. If you swap both i guess the mileage would go back to zero. |

How does it know WHICH one was swapped? ac |

they both keep the same info and perform a hand shake each time the bike is started. If one is new the other will populate the other with what's missing. Between the two the cluster is the dominant partner so if you put a synched cluster with a synched ecm, the cluster will overwrite the ecm mileage. It's all in the programming in each device. It looks for the same data values to be present in the connecting partner and takes the necessary actions depending on what values are returned. |

Thanks for all your help guys!! I will let it count down first thing this morning & watch what happens? We also have an race Ecm to go on this bike but were told by the guys at E BR not to swap both the ECM & the IC at the same time. |

"We also have an race Ecm to go on this bike but were told by the guys at E BR not to swap both the ECM & the IC at the same time." Ahh, so it IS an issue. LOL ac |

"Told by the guys at E BR not to swap both the ECM & the IC at the same time." This was in reference to fitting a brand new Ecm & brand new IC at the same time - both with zero miles on them.. |

More importantly, no VIN |

Is the VIN stored somewhere? ac |

Both IC and ECM hold the VIN, at handshake, it is uploaded to new module. Z |

Interesting since one can overwrite the other without issue. I am curious what happens if you put 2 used items on one different bike. ac |

I'd suggest that Tibman260's post probably answers that: Between the two the cluster is the dominant partner so if you put a synched cluster with a synched ecm, the cluster will overwrite the ecm |

Sorry to bring this old thread back. I have an 08 1125R. I bought a used 2009 cluster for it. After installing it, and turning the key, I don't get the count down and I get 3km on the ODO. Is there a different sync procedure when putting a used cluster in? Does the key need to be on the whole time for the 30:00 minute countdown to work? |

No, that is because the used cluster was already paired to the bike it came from. There is nothing you can do to except get a brand new unused cluster. |
