I bought my CR new from the dealer and never checked if the harness upgrade was done. What can I look for, physically, to see if it has been done to my bike? Also, is the harness upgrade necessary? I've read a lot about the stators doing the melt-down after the upgrade; this is making me leary about getting it done since, to me at least, there appears to be a correlation between the harness upgrade and stators frying. Any thoughts on this are welcome. |

The easiest way to tell if the upgrade has been done: 1. remove the seat. 2. look at the wire that plugs into the solenoid, if it is one wire, then the harness upgrade has not been done, if it is a split wire, then the harness upgrade has been done. |

this pic is what i am talking about, see the gray plug that is plugged into the black connector by the rear shock, that is the resistor to get rid of the solenoid, but if i had the solenoid, it would plug in where the grey plug is. Also, see the black box below the blue tape on the passenger peg, you will have that black box on the side of the subframe if you have the harness recall done.

Dktechguy112 How come your bike is tore apart? From the looks of it, seems like youll have that way for a bit. |

He changed the frame after crash damage. See the "Frame Swap Update" threads |

Does anybody have any thoughts on how helpful this harness update is in relation to stator failure? I read a magazine review of an 1125 that was test drove some 8000+ miles, and it never mentioned the stator failing during that time. I wonder if the harness upgrade was done to that bike. What are the advantages of the upgrade that make it worth while? |

The upgrade cuts out one of the three legs of the stator when the bike is running under 5k rpms. The goal of the upgrade is to keep the stator from overheating, as many people feel the stator problems are due to the stator overheating. It will overheat more at lower rpms because less oil flows at lower rpms. The trend that many people have noticed is that those that keep the rpms up do not have stator failures. I heard that Erik Buell Racing has not had any problems with the stators on the race bikes, because they are near redline all the time. The 09 stators have a higher output wattage then the 08s, and the 08's tend to not have stator problems. The magazine review you read was probably an 08 1125, with the lower output stator.
