Does anyone know of a commercially available alternative for the plastic washers used on the body work? It seems every time I take a panel off I lose at least one on my driveway/garage floor. I would like to buy a bag of 100 or something.

American Sport bike has them for about $0.20 per as I recall. If you had a bag of a hundred, you'd never need any more - just sweep the garage whenever you need one...

$.20 might be a "good" price from Buell, but I know I have seen plastic washers about $5/100. I guess I need to break out the calipers and measure if no one else has.

Avc - Don't get me wrong, I hear ya... I've been poking around for a lower cost alternative, but really didn't want to spend a whole lot of time to save an insignificant amount of money ... suffice it to say that saving a few pennies costs me more in time and effort than the savings - I need to get over to Fastenal and see what they have when I get a chance.

I went ahead and bought 10 for two bucks from American Sport Bike, as I figure that will last me a couple of years. $5 per hundred is a better deal for sure, but that assumes you actually need 100.

Zac4mac was giving them out for free a while back, he got a bag of 20,000 of them.

I figure I live near and ride with about 10 Buell owners. We could easily split a pack of 100 between a few of us and for $2 each have lifetime supplies.

I went to the local Ace and zoned out in the pull-out drawer department, heaven ... anyway, got some black plastic washers that are a nice fit and are made of a little more rigid material than the clear mush originals.

Actually - black washers on red or white body work might look better than the clear-ish stockers - Hmmm. (Mine's black so it doesn't matter, but it gets me a thinkin')

My Ace pull-out drawer had the semi-clear just a bit thicker with a narrower AN type size, even better you can't see them!

Do you remember what part you ordered specifically?

So here's a fun way to completely kill a half hour: click on all the washer links in the mcMaster catalog.

But you gotta click quickly, or it'll turn into an hour.

:-)

They have like 40 different kinds of plastic washers. And in that I'm no chemist, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which ones are right for us. Phenolic? Nylon 6-6? Poloycarbonate? Rulon? Delrin?

I just sent an e-mail to American Sport Bike and told them to send me an assortment of Buell nylon washers and bill me.

It cost about nothing and I think they ended up tossing them in with something else.

I like to keep a tray of spare fasteners, washers and so forth.

I've got to order a couple more.

That would work out nicely if shipping wasn't so expensive...or I needed something else too. Right now I just want a baggie I can keep in stock for those "aw crap" instances.

Oh yeah, they are now $.30 from American Sport Bike...with the $20 minimum order I would have to buy 67 of them. LOL
