Installed the new chin spoiler today. It looks good! Noticed that the bolt that the front left bracket atatches to on the engine was missing. I had to improvise. Will need to buy one tomorrow! Anyone know the size and thread. A friend suggested it might be a M6 x 1 x 1/2.

thats what you get for not converting to metric hehe.

pretty sure its a 6mm x 1mm thread its the standard usual 6mm bolt size.
i got thousands of 6mm bolts lying around at work.

So I went to the hardware store looking for 6mm bolts. I found the M6 x 1 x 1/2 and it fit perfect.

Has anyone else installed there's?

My husband has figured it all out, brackets wise etc, and says he needs one bolt. But its ready to go get painted, after they match the paint. Hopefully soon!!

Puredrive,

I tried that. Unfortunately the pic shrinks down to 160kb but the form won't let me upload anything bigger than 103kb.

Am I doing something wrong?

You must choose the IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards

if not just post the direct URL once the photo has been uploaded.

if not photobucket re sizes automatically..

I sprung an oil leak!
Sunday was beautiful so I decided to head for the hills. I was about to enter the twisty road which starts in the town of Lachute, but I figured I'd get a coffee first. As soon as I got off the bike I noticed my back wheel and exhaust were covered in oil. I aborted my mission and headed home, SLOWLY.

Upon closer inspection I realized the bolts that hold the bracket to the stator cover on the left side had gotten loose. All three of them got loose. I was really surprised cause I tightened them twice. I think the heat causes the carbon fiber to expand at a different rate, plus the vibrations. Who knows. But I figure I need some lock tight.
Which one is better for this application, Blue or Red?

Warning for those of you who haven't installed or recently installed your spoiler. Make sure you put some lock light and check those bolts.

Peter

Hi again,

I have some important installation advice for any of you who haven't installed yet.

I re-installed the fairing after my oil leak incident. This time I decided to make a little mod.

Given that the bolts on the stator got loose I knew that the 3 bolt configuration of the left side bracket was the problem.

First I drilled the center hole of the left side bracket so that I can torque the bolt directly onto the stator cover and get proper torque. The hole had to be big enough to fit a socket in there. I put Blue lock-tite and torqued it to 98 in-lbs as stated in the Service Manual.

Second, I attached the bracket using only the 2 outer bolts. I tried to torque them to the stated 98 in-lbs but no way could I do that. It seemed that the bracket was being crushed. So I put some lock-tite and torqued them to about 60 in-lbs which was the most I could do. Now I have to pray that that's enough. If it isn't I will have to fabricate a metal bracket.

Another thing I need to point out. The right rear bracket is attached to the bolt on the rear set. It seems that the bracket is too short so I had to put some spacers. No big deal. I just wanted you all to be prepared for that.

Peter
