I picked up my bike with new stator Friday. The bike before the stator had trouble with torque below 3500 rpm. with the new stator the torque starts at 2600 rpm. It runs better than it ever did. Is this because the ignition is now getting all the energy it deserves. I have had that happen on my S1 where a stator replacement left the bike running much stronger. Is this new found torque a reflash and/or the stator? I have read on BWB that the Erik Buell Racing ECM pulls from 2000 rpm on up. I always figured that was because the rider did not weigh much, maybe not. |

Pwillikers, what you are seeing is correct, like Parrick has done, I too removed the goop crap out of the cover, deburred it, cleaned it all up, and as me and him are both hoping will provide better oil flow to the stator to keep it cool. |

Conjecture... It seems that the inflow and outflow of oil to the stator enclosure is out of balance such that it never fills up completely and the stator windings at 12 o'clock are often exposed and hence prone to overheating. If this is true, here are two possible solutions: keep the revs way up and force as much oil into the stator enclosure as possible thereby overwhelming oil outflow (sound familiar?) OR increase oil inflow by reconfiguring oil supply to the stator enclosure and/or decrease oil outflow from the stator enclosure by restricting the outflow circuit. Obviously, the former is preferable. |

Regarding 1_mike's comment above on the airbox being full of stuff: There is a small opening at the front of the airbox to a scoop that comes out under the triple clamp. This is used to force air (unfiltered) into the box, pressurizing it proportional to your speed. There is inherently going to be a bunch of junk in there, but the air filter prevents it from entering the engine. I don't think he was talking about dirt before the filter, read his post again. He mentioned greasing the seal, I assumed that meant air filter seal. |

Questions: 1) If a faulty stator is replaced with an improved stator (rewound/rebuilt), is the harness upgrade necessary? 2) Based on the photos, the wiring harness is routed behind the stator theoretically creating oil flow issues. Can the harness be re-connected to the stator between coils reducing obstruction in flow? Instead of routing, shorten and connect where it comes in the case. Note: I have no idea how these things are built or how the winding works, but I will have to know soon enough - just got my first errors this week. I'm taking it in to have the harness upgrade on Tues. I'm wondering how damaged my stator may be. The error comes on soon after the bike finished warming up - within a mile after warm up. I turn it off turn back on and everything seems okay. Fortunately I have a short commute - 10mi. (Message edited by rasmonis on July 04, 2010) |

After a couple of hours of buzzing around this morning, I noticed that my battery warning light was on. I promptly changed the display: sure enough - battery showed 12.2v. Accelerating away from the stop sign, the voltage came up to the 12.6-12.8 range, and the warning light went back off. This continued all the way home. Is this the beginning of the dreaded FUBAR stator problem? |

if you have not had the upgrade yep and maybe if you have. |

Do you think I can ride it 90 miles to a good dealer? |

I only made 45 miles when my lights went on. |

Dan, is that 45 miles after the light went on or 45 miles on your odometer? Phooey. I'm just in denial. |

well my fellow 1125 owners, I called Garret at Custom Rewind and sent him a pic via cell phone of my stator and he said he can rebuild it for $125.00 and this is including the shipping. so I went on ahead and shipped it too him, ill take pics of it when i get it back |

Got the new harness and ECM reflash and had the stator checked out - no prob. Kept an eye on the battery both ways and noticed no change in voltage/charging. Got off work, started no prob, then about a half mile later (if that, more like 1/4mi), Fans came on, Volt Sys error, Comm error and low fuel error - I was low on fuel. The comm and Low fuel errors showed up in diag mode before I went to the dealer, but I had never seen them displayed before. I turned it off then back on while coasting and everything was fine. The whole day voltage never dropped below 13.4 Got gas, took a while for the low fuel light to turn off. Got home, turned off, 3 minutes later I started it up again to park it and the engine light came on and stayed on until I turned it off. Not sure what all this means yet or what to do about it. |

Note: I did notice while trying to turn off/on while coasting (<25mph)that when I pulled in the clutch, the Volt sys error would clear and everything seemed fine until clutch release, the the Volt, Comm and Fuel errors would show. Only reason I noticed was because I couldn't get it into neutral, I finally gave up held the clutch in and restarted. |

Wonder if Custom ReWind and make some sort of Heavy Duty High Temp rewind of the Stator?? |

after patiently waiting for the last 4 payments; i got my 1125 back, with a new battery, stator and fuel pump. (fuel pump was fried during an attempted jump-start) i asked for my fried stator back, but they said they might need to send it away for diagnostics. we'll see what happens |

My bike has been in the dealer for 19 days because it wouldn't idle properly. Supposedly the dealer has been on the phone with Harley for multiple days. Now they think it is a charging issue. I think this harness was the WORST thing ever. ac |

Good work Ultimo_justin, I believe you're the first one to jump for the rewind. I'll be very interested to see how much more robust the insulation is on the rewind (be sure to post pics) and how well it holds up. You owe it to science to get that thing good and hot and rack up some serious mileage when you get it back. |

Pwillikers I will be sure to post pics when i get it back, I let the guy at custom rewind know that others on this forum have had issues as well as sort of a hint that he might be getting more calls from us if the rewind is a success. he did say he has 21 years in the business so Im sure he will do a much better job than the factory. he did say that when it arrives it will take 3 days to complete. |

Ultimo_justin - I worked with a retired navy machinist 20 years ago. He rebuilt big electrical components on a ship. I was told by this man that a very important part of a good long lasting rebuild is properly curing the insulation. That's probably a big part of the 3 days your guy needs. |

i assume too thats what hes doing, he also asked me just out of curiosity what the price of a factory stator is and after i told him he said "that is bull$#!+, how can they charge that much for such low quality equipment" and i said, well, thats Harley for ya. |

Ultimo_justin - I tried to get my old stator back but the Dealer said no. Your story will eventually unfold over time. Without going back and finding your first part in this thread, what mileage did your stator fail? |

well...im assuming it was starting to fail the evening i got my harness put on which was 3200 miles. thats when my CEL SYSTEM VOLTAGE and battery light came on and the volts were going nuts, sometimes too high and sometimes too low. i lived with this issue for a month, took it to the dealer, they said they compared it to 4 other buells, even called the company and they told me that its normal, I drive the bike back home, CEL and the other crap comes in, volts this time are 11.8 then 11.7 and as i get to my house its 11.5. turn off bike, try to turn back on, click click click. by now the bike has 4000 miles. i will admit that most of my riding is around 4000 RPMs, and I also no longer have faith in HD, so now im taking matters into my own hands, all work on my 1125R will be performed by me, the closest dealer 100 miles away dont even have the damn software to update ECMs so I automatically rule them out, so that means there is NO dealer in the state of ND that will know what they are doing on buells. I am cancelling my extended warranty, giving HD the bird, and gonna ride my buell just like everyone else on here does, its for the fun, the pleasure, the thrill, the great power, feel, and agility it has, the most fun we've all had on a sportbike, despite the problems that we may come across on our bikes we still continue to persist on fixing it and riding because that is what we do, we are BUELL, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! |

First hot longer ride - temp in the mid 90's, frame still cool enough to touch through stop and go traffic, motor CT between 196 and 200 degrees. Battery charge kept fluctuating between 12.7 and 13.4 depending on what the bike was doing. Usually I only see the 12 range when I first start the bike, so this is new. I'll see if it repeats itself in the afternoon today. If it starts staying in the 12s, should I contact the dealership, about a possible stator problem. Experience tells me that 13.2 should be the minimum, below that is playing tag with failure on other Buells. EZ |

Are stator problems more likely or obvious in hot weather? Mine started acting up last weekend, which was my first "hot longer ride...stop and go traffic, motor CT between 196 and 200 degrees...". My voltage ranged from 12.2 to 12.8. |
