Does anyone have the install guide for the charging harness upgrade? My parts are suppose to be in around the 20th and as soon as I get both bikes back I plan on ripping that harness out. I never had problems because I keep my bike above 5k for the most part. The heat isn't killing these, it's not lack of oil (for me), and its not bad insulation. I am going to ask the dealer to take the harnesses out but I'm sure they will say no or try to charge me, which is not happening. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. |

trust me,leave the harness on it won't hurt a thing and unless you race only it will help make the stator live longer |

Just leave the harness and wire around it. Take the yellow wire stator connector and hook it back up to the regulator. ac |

both my stators lives 2-3 months after the harness went on. as soon as they were installed voltage was on average 1 volt below what it was before. |

How can you attribute a cause and effect to the harness? Isn't this more of a coincidence? At 39 miles my CR battery light started coming on at start-up and idling in traffic. This continued up to the 620 mile service when they installed the wiring harness. After that the battery light came on at start-up but not in traffic. This was slightly better and the pattern for another 1500 miles. At 2200 miles the stator went out after a very long hot day of riding. HD says it is heat and that long hot day of riding was the heat cycle that killed it. The new stator is doing just what it is supposed to do. I am running the miles up and having a wonderful time doing it. |

Coincidence very unlikely. CR purchased in Sept of 08 had 15000 problem free (charging system wise) miles. R had a bad battery that got replaced soon after I purchased it in Oct of 09 that had no charging system issues for 3000 miles. Harness was installed 1 right after the other. Rode both bikes the same amount and they went out 1 right after the other. Before harness voltage was 13.7-14.1 on both. After harness voltage was 12.5-13.2 on both. My CR survived a summer in Texas in all riding conditions including stop-n-go traffic, twisties keeping the revs up, and highway cruising with revs in the 5-7k range in 6th gear. Heat I don't think is a factor with these stators. Why weren't there multiple stator threads before this harness became available? |

I don't know...seems like an awful lot of coincidences around these boards with stator failure very shortly after harness install.... ac |

07xb12ss - You may be on to something. time will tell. If my new stator lasts longer than 2200 miles I will know that it was at least better than the old one. Heres hoping I can get those miles before warranty goes out. Sun is shining - Later! |

my stator burned up before the harness was changed,after the harness and replacement stator it is doing just fine now... |
