So, the Buell went to the shop for it's first service, It was over heating and boiling gas and all kinds of things that they fixed. and today the Buell decided that it wanted to BURN me. This is the worst of a series of burns inside my right leg. This one is second degree, 3 blisters. The others are first degree. And No I wasn't wearing shorts, this burn is High on my leg. Got burned through a pair of Boxer briefs, and a pair of Southpole Jeans. I'm just a tad Fed up with the Buell. Mike |

Ahh - the 2008 - I would insulate, relocate the at sensor, talk to Erik Buell Racing about an ignition, and enjoy a better running bike, and if I had just a tad of coin I'd switch over to the 09 headers/sensors/ignition by Erik Buell Racing - lol EZ |

Frame was insulated, Ignition was already taken care of. ECM Flashed, Gas cap replaced, Oil change done, all under warranty. I'm missing some things, But you get the jist of it... And no I don't think I should have to spend any coin to stop my BRAND NEW bike from Maming the inside of my leg. 2nd degree burns Scar. Just my 2 cents. Mike |

I cant fathom the positions you would have to contort into to burn your leg in multiple places... |

Thigh and Knee, Had the right leg hugging the frame. The pic is of my right thigh. That area of my leg is high by the groin would be where the inside of your thigh touches the frame right below the seat. I tried to keep the pic conspicuos of where the burn was. Guess it worked. |

Not saying its impossible, but I just don't see how it could of happened. Hell I got two of them, and ridden several others, and never have felt heat remotely close enough to melting an ice cube. Even on my air cooled XB, I had to do something really stupid and impractical to get even light burns on my right leg. |

Froggy, I don't know either. But the proof is in the pictures. I wish I didn't have issues. I just want a bike I can ride and enjoy. On a side note: I never thought a Bike could set my pants on fire either but my 2006 VRSCR did just that as I was cruising down 295 S. in NJ. It seems the bike had a recall on a heat shield because it would allow your pant leg to wedge between the headers due to wind. HD sold me the bike without doing to recall and as I rode it home I felt some heat on the right leg and I look down and see smoke. Pull over and my pant leg is smoldering. |

If I didn't wear riding pants over my jeans all the time, I'd probably have similar burns. I'm in Albuquerque, so 5500' or so, 100+ degree temps, lots of sun. On a hot commute home, with a bit of stop and go traffic, the frame gets hot enough that I can't hold my hand on it when I get home. The fuel boils, the coolant overflows, and the bike is completely scalding hot. I've got the frame insulated, headers wrapped, the most recent ECU flash, Gripsters on the outside (can't hold my hand on them either), and the heat completely overwhelms everything. It's really rather absurd. |

techspec gripskins, plus they have the added benefit of providing a better gripping surface |

There is really no defense of a frame getting so hot it badly burns you, Foggy love to know how your bike frame cant melt an ice cube, Must be all the riding it with the ignition off you do! Hell even in the frozen tundra known as Canada mine gets hot as hell in traffic. Burnt a pair of jeans enough to make them brown from the frame. I wear over pants now to save skin in case of an off or traffic |

I have had the burn as well, Same leg as yours and wearing jeans. I have also been burned on my XB9R. When it has happened, it is usually a hot day 95 to 100 degrees and low humidity. When I wear leathers in the same conditions I do not feel the burn directly, but the leathers do get much more than warm to the touch in the leg area. |

How about a tube frame rotax with twin 45mm Mikuni's! Buy the take off headers at E-B-R and have them ceramic coated inside and out. Get that fancy insulation anon spoke of. Put both in at next rotation. |

As Gbackus said, Techspec gripskins... I put them on my CR over summer & it gets to 40deg celsius plus here & they helped with frame heat.. |

I am seriously considering the gripskins for mine too, not for the extra grip but for the extra insulation. I'm in the UK so we don't really have "extreme" temperatures here but it was a balmy 85 last weekend and my thighs were really uncomfortably hot after a 150 mile ride. I did joke that it'll be a great bike to ride in the winter as i could put my hands on the frame to warm them...but in the summer it's very uncomfortable. I wear kevlar lined jeans rather than leathers, that probably doesn't help and it hasn't burnt me (yet) but I can see the potential is there.. |

I can definitely imagine getting a lil burn like that from my frame. Sitting at a stoplight when it's a bit hot out -- and a short stoplight at that -- my Kevlar-lined jean leg was on the frame (away from my leg). When I got the green light I sped off and when that heated jean material touched my leg ... WOWZA! I almost jumped outta' my seat b/c I wasn't expecting it at all. I'll be getting Gripster pads soon. |

It is simple to get burned on the 1125, just spend 3hrs in 6 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic trying to get 1.5 miles to your exit with temps of 101F @ 88% humidity. Welcome to Northern Virginia HELL, traffic is horrific, and lane splitting is not tolerated unless your bike has POLICE on the saddle bags; you get to just sit and take it. |

The gripster pads and wrapping the exhaust and wearing a heavy jean or riding pant helps me. Prior to that I would get burns too on a hot day stuck in traffic. |

Cscutt, I live in MD and know what a traffic hell NoVA is. I think I would have risked the ticket and hit the shoulder for 1.5 miles... "I mean 3 hours to go 1.5 miles, c'mon officer, I had to get off the road before she broke down!" |

I feel your pain, literally, although I didn't burn my legs, they were raw red after one ride I remember. While I was breaking in the bike with a not so new flash the temp was reading 226 and I remember desperately looking for some open road so I could spread my legs from the tank and cool them down with some wind. I was wearing jeans at the time. This was with the techspec snakeskin (thickest) pads on. After I got the latest flash it helped, but I can still get her up to 225 and I start looking for open road again... Maybe I should carry a bag of ice around and ice my tank like Froggy, otherwise how else would he know he can't melt an ice cube |

I could understand buying the Snakeskins or whatever for Grip purposes. Or doing mods for Performance gains. But as a Casual rider I don't think I should have to dump coin into my bike in order to ride it without being Maimed... I appreciate all the suggestions. But I'm more concerned with Why?? Why is this bike getting so hot that it caused my aftermarket decals to bubble and peal away. Or caused a 2nd degree burn on my leg.. Don't get me wrong I was on an 06VRSCR and when you came to a standstill on that bike the fans would kick in and blast your right leg with all the heat off the radiator. This is different. The heat is coming right from the frame of the bike, making it nearly impossible to ride the bike as it was intended. Everyone says to squeeze the frame with your legs and use your core muscles to hold your weight up off your wrists. Yet this bike is so hot I can't do that... Hopefully this gets straightened out ASAP. |

That doesn't sound right Mav, maybe it is because it is an '08 and doesn't have the heat shield on the inside of the frame? I think later bikes had heat shield installed from the factory. Not sure if this is something you can get added under warranty? |

You can get the insulation installed under warranty. It's basically worthless. It's not helped me one bit with my high frame/fuel temps. They help delay the heat a tiny bit, but the heat eventually soaks through them and it doesn't matter. |

DO you have the latest, latest flash? Since you have done all the items you listed above, has the dealer offered any other solutions? Maybe you should contact HD customer service... |

When I go in for my 12,000 mile service (or whatever the interval for the valve adjustment is) I'm getting the headers ceramic coated inside and out. I don't care if it delays the maintenance by a week, this needs to get done. Anybody chime in who's had this done? Make a big difference? I'm also going to ask them to triple line the inside of the frame with the insulations ... I'll pay for the extra material I don't care, LOL. In conjunction with the Gripster pads in should at least put a dent in the problem. The E-B-R ECM definitely brought the temps down by a few degrees relative to ambient. Sometimes you gotta' roll with the punches ... I enjoy my CR too much to cry over a little smoldering leg flesh anyway. I mean, there's 1125cc of import bashing, Italian molesting power about 4" from my thighs ... some heat is expected. Maybe if FUHD allowed full development and didn't fast-track the 1125 they wouldn't have to deal with all these complaints. Figures. (Message edited by jeepinbueller on June 30, 2010) |

Mavrick: You are absolutely correct. You shouldn't be worried about being burned by your bike. It's one of the things I think that is total bullshit about the 1125R. Speaking of heat, I had to stop halfway through one of my sessions on the track because I thought my feet were going to be burned...they were that hot. Had to take off my boots immediately when I pitted. Heat is a definite problem with these bikes, you can't argue that it's not. And we shouldn't have to spend money to fix the issue. As others have said, the fram insulation doesn't do shit. So...what can we do? I have a feeling some of the heat is because the stock mapping of the bike is sooooo terrible (even with updates) that it just runs lean and hot as hell. That's also something a company shouldn't be putting out on the market. Don't get me wrong, I love both my Buells and will never sell either of them...but Buell isn't the God-Brand and they make mistakes. This is definitely one of them. |

Frame is already Insulated, ECM is flashed. Everything else is stock. HD Rep is coming into Brian's HD in Langhorn PA to look at it tomorrow and see where we go from here. Pics of my leg spoke for themselves. I'm sure Brian's HD is going to go above and beyond on this one. Will keep you guys updated... |

If you can get $1,000,000 for spilling hot coffee on yourself, then surely this is worth that much. LOL careful HDMC will have to borrow another 300 mil from Buffet at 15% and then shut down 2 more brands to repay it! |
