I have an '09 1125R, picked it up a week or so after it arrived at the dealer Nov 09, with 19 miles on it.

No harness upgrade, no stator replacement. I received the Voltage Sys error 2 days ago. Haven't been riding as much as I used to, I have a 10mi commute each way on fairly easy traffic, bike only has 1983 mi.

Error has comes up 3 times... first day at lunch, then on the way home; yesterday on the way home. I pull over, "reboot" and no error. Voltage maintains a steady 13.7-14.1 after putting it on a tender the first night after the error. Battery was fully charged maybe .5 hour after being on the tender, but I left it on for the night.

I also want to know why my bike need a new harness, I'm thinking of just having the stator replaced.

04 2009 build date.

I am wondering if those who have experienced a Stator failure have had their bike hooked to a battery tender when not being riden. I always have my bikes pluged into to a battery tender when parked here at home. The only time they are not plugged into a tender is when I am on a overnight trip or a several day trip. I have a BMW LT that will eat a battery in 3 or 4 days if not being ridden, and the CR is kind of that way also.

I believe the main cause of stator failure is heat, There is not enough cooling oil flow around the stator below 5000 rpm.
Most of the people here with 1125's operate the bike most of the time below 5000 rpm.
The service bulletin states this is the issue as well.
The software update and the harness jumper is supposed to limit the stator output in the lower rpm range which is supposed reduce the heat generated by the stator.

Buellhusker: What year BMW LT? There was an issue in the 1999-2000 model year involving the CD player that would run the battery completely down if the bike wasn't ridden frequently.

One other thing is to check the light in the trunk lid and make sure it is OFF. If you lock your forks when you park the bike you'll be fine but if you don't, then the light (if you forgot to turn it off) will remain on and after three or four days that could drop your battery voltage low enough that it won't start.

You are correct about the LT radio, when I got the bike the radio did not work so I sent it into Becker any they exchanged it with another and I also purchased a spare radio from another rider that junked out several LT bikes. After trashing a new BMW battery (BMW would not warranty it) I began using the Oddesy battery and always plugging the tender and have never had the problem since. I have noticed that if I leave the CR sit for a week (was dam cold here 2008/2009 winter and a lot of snow) the battery would be low, so I keep it plugged into the tender also.

Stator number 2 was installed 800 miles ago. Today I started getting the battery light at idle. No CEL yet, but I am keeping an eye on it.

btw, the harness was already upgraded.

6500+ miles. Still original stator. No harness upgrade. (If you can call it an upgrade). No problems. (Hope I never do!)

5500miles total on 2009 R, harness upgrade 1500 miles ago. Immediately killed the voltage regulator somehow. HD couldnt figure it out. Replaced it on my dime. No other problems for about 1400miles. knock, knock

I burned out the stator on my 2009 1125R, but I found a really good replacement Buell stator from this company called Rick's Motorcycle Electrics. Now I can get a high rev and maintain a high temp with out overheating the charging system. Hope this helps.
