This morning I rode to work..I believe that the actual temp was around in the low 70s but my bike was showing 96F in the cluster. A few weeks ago, It was showing 140F when it was no more then 85F outside. This mainly happens when I'm in light traffic. Not so much when the bike is on a constant speed. Should I be concerned? Take it to the dealer? |

It is because the temp sensor is reading the heat coming off the radiators. There is a topic on how to relocate the sensor to the airbox where the reading for some people has been more accurate. However, there is some disagreement on whether the ECM actually cares what the temp is reading. Lots of discussion HERE |

some people relocated the sensor to the airbox, where they say it reads much more accurately. If you are worried, you can relocate it, but i would just spend the time riding and not worry about it. |

+1 on previous comments. The sensor is located at the front of the snorkel (left side, right side if you are looking through the forks). It's immediately downwind of the left pod's radiator fan. So, unless you have lots of airflow through the snorkel, you will pick up outwash from the left radiator. Mine almost always reads high. Michael at EB Racing, says jury is out on whether there is any real benefit to relocating to airbox, but others have demonstrated that the relocated sensor will read closer to actual inlet air temperature (at the throttle inlet). |

Switch the display to Instant MPG. Problem solved |

Now that the road is catching a lot more sun road heat is also a culprit. I relocated mine then put it back to stock. I can't say I notice any difference in power while riding when the AT reads high. |

140 seems way higher than normal. I've never seen mine get out of the 110's and that's on a 90 degree day sitting in traffic. |

My question is: Is this really just air temperature, or Intake air temperature? It seems to me that most think it is Intake air temp, and are relocating it to the intake. If it IS intake air temp, why isn't it located in the intake where the IAT has been for years? If it's not IAT, then why not relocate it somewhere where it will actually read the ambient air temp... So... which is it? |

saw 147F on the way home. I want to say that the air temp was around 90-91F it was stop & go traffic. As soon as I started to move the AT dropped to 140 within the first 2-3min..then back again to 110F ..it stayed there while I was probably moving 30-40mph..a good stretch of road of perhaps 3 1/2 miles with no stops The only reason I posted is because it was never that crazy of a difference before..this just started maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I am not sure if this AT readout plays a part in the IAT ecu reading or what? SOmeone call Erick and ask him.. |
