Searched to the best of my ability but found nothing, so here I am leaving lurk-mode and asking a very obvious (to me) Question:

Are there any "privateer" Buell mechanics out there? If so, is there a database of them? Any in the greater DC area?

I've owned Buells for the last 15 years, and have yet to walk away from a dealer's mechanic thinking "that guy has tuned my machine to the best of its ability." Most are re-branded or cross trained HD wrench turners who are looking to make those bikes perform for their world, but we all agree that Buells are a different animal - a Thoroughbred to their Clydesdales.

I owned an Audi A4 for years, and never realized how much better that car could and SHOULD run until the warranty ran out and I took it to an Audi Certified but non-dealer garage where talented aficionados were performing their magic.

I understand the attraction for many to say "DIY" but honestly that's not my talent, and I'm OK with that. I also don't build my own house or pull my own teeth. I go to an expert.

Please help.

Get In Gear is a shop in Pine Island NY that has been racing Buells for years, they even race tubers. They are further from me than my dealer but I plan on going to them when I need work done that I can't do and isn't warranty.

Unfortunately, they are quite a bit of a haul from DC.

There out there but few and far between Iv only heard about one publicly he was a former Buell employee and after the closer went on to open his own shop for Buell's it was brought up here I believe a while ago I sure someone here remembers But I think he's in WI. : ( although if you look hard enough you may find someone in your area that can do it either a DIY guy, lord knows theres enough of us out there that can tweak and tune and knows all the tricks. Or a shop that guy works at. So good luck happy hunting.

You know now that you mention it we should put together a NON HD Buell friendly shop listing.Due to the fact that all of the HD shop seem to be getting rather hostile toward Buell's Froggy, Blake, you listing

Froggy, thanks for that info. If I ever have problems with Danbury H-D, Get In Gear might be a necessary alternative for me.

Go to your local track and look around, talk to anyone running a Buell.

Attweco, Danbury typically is good, I give them an 8 out of 10. Parts guys are fantastic, most of the sales guys while not being really knowledgeable about Buells they do try and often ask me questions about them. They have gone out of their way for me many times, including getting my Uly back on the road 5 minutes after closing when I crashed on the I-84 onramp right down the road from them. They recently did the clutch leak fix on my R, and my bike was done in less than 24 hours from when I dropped it off. I am a bit irked they charged me for a ECM update, but it was cheap and not worth the hassle to complain about it.

But yea, the Get In Gear guys are awesome, the pic on the building says it all : )

For those in Northeast Ohio, I just used MPH (Maximum Performance and Handling, www.mphohio.com) to install my new tires. They only charge $34.99 per wheel, including wheel removal. They have a frame checking machine, dyno tuning, suspension work, paint, they pretty much do it all to all bikes. They're pretty popular among the road racers in this area. Best part for me is they're 2 miles from my apartment.
