I did a search for this but did not find any posts that sounded like the same thing. I have this noise in the engine of my 08 1125r. It sounds like a metallic slapping/tapping noise. It is heard at approximately 3500 rpm. I notice it in the first three gears, maintaining a steady speed. Like second gear at 30 mph. The bike runs great, plenty of power. I have been hearing this noise pretty much as long as I have had the bike. I just changed the oil yesterday and the magnet was clean, just the normal stuff on it, no chunks or shavings. Does anyone else experience the same type of noise? I don't recall hearing this on the demo bike I had ridden, but that was a long time ago and I may not have run it at that rpm / speed and load.

I think I have heard the same noise as you, at around 3000 RPM. Always wondered if it was the engine knocking at low RPM since it rides rough.. but I only have about 200 KM on my bike so I still don't know what's normal/what's not, or if this is a problem.

Thanks for the reply Jim. The noise I am concerned with only comes in at 3500 and is not noticeable after 3700 rpms. Very specific rpm range and only while maintaining that constant speed, 30-33 mph in second gear, 40-43 mph in third gear. If I accelerate through that rpm range I do not hear it. Just trying to find out if anyone else has the same noise. Going to have to make a service appointment and have the dealer check it.

Try checking oil. Mine makes a lot of clatter about there when just cruising if it needs topping up.

James thanks for the reply, I changed my oil on Saturday and there was no change in the noise. I have noticed my oil going low. I check it regularly.

I've got the same noise and it has become more apparent. Trouble is with a helmet on it's sometimes difficult to work out where the noise is coming from.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that the slipper guides for the cam chain were upgraded on later models due to "problems"
