Erik, We really do not know of another remedy, as we have not has issues with this on our race bikes. We are certain that H-D/Buell will be looking into a solution if there is an ongoing problem. But simply from an engineering perspective, it is a reasonable possibility that some stators may fail after the update because the insulation was damaged badly enough prior to the update that it fails shortly afterward. The update is meant to stop the insulation damage but it can't reverse any existing damage. If you wish to contact Buell/H-D customer service, their numbers are: (414) 343-8400 and also (414) 343-4056. Thank you, Tech Support Erik Buell Racing From: erik Sent: Friday, May 14, 2010 3:59 PM To: tech@ebracing.com Subject: Buell 1125CR Stator Issues Hi there I had a question on a problem a lot of Bueller's have been experiencing on the 09 1125CR. There have been many Stator failures on the model. There is a harness upgrade to compensate for the overheat issues we have been experiencing. There has been only one known failure after harness install. Is it possible the 08 R stator could be used in the 09 bikes? Or is there another remedy if there are more failures after the upgrade? Regards, Erik |

Thanks to Erik Buell Racing team for their quick response at least it answered some things on what people are dealing with. Hopefully most people did not have damaged insulation before fix. |

So is this primarily a CR issue? I didn't realize it was only that model. True? |

NoT sure but Erik Buell Race Team helped with a quick explanation. I think the parts manual is the same for both models but I dont have one to confirm. If it is the same it should have the same part number. The insulation maybe different on the CR? (Message edited by freezerburn840 on May 14, 2010) |

Any trend/idea of how many miles before problems start pre-update? |

So is this primarily a CR issue? I didn't realize it was only that model. True? False. It is an 1125 issue, BUT it is based on production dates, *not* model. Could more CR's than R's have been built during the dates in question? Sure. Does that flat-out exclude R owners? Nope. CHECK YOUR PRODUCTION DATE. If you have a question or are unsure, contact your dealer or the CS numbers listed above with your full VIN (all seventeen digits), and they can tell you if the update (NOT A RECALL, mind you) applies to your motorcycle. It applied to mine. I had them order the kit. Got an appointment. Showed up and waited; rolled back out about 2 hours later. No biggie at all. |

So 2010 1125 bikes don't have the stator problem? because they did the harness fix or something else? |

freezer I'd been wanting to get in touch with some one at ebr. glad you did! maybe I should being that I have an extreme case! with over 24000 miles in less than 2 years. the twisties encompessing me and great weather, make that easy! im avereraging one stator every 4000 miles. after two buell called me! I think that led to the harness update. |

Dcmortalcoil the easiest and quickest way to find out if your 2010 needs the update is to call the dealer with your VIN and have them run it for you. |

Naiguy your's is defenately the exception. Hopefully you will have better luck. You can probably get a 2010 motor out of it if you wanted. If you've been doing a lot of twisty stuff. Your revs are probably over the 5,000 rpm mark which was suppose to be the magic number in theory for failures. Which was keeping the revs lower than 5. yah i would like a new bike in white! LOL yah I actually ride over 5 grand all the time after the second failure. dktechguy yes I had a stator go after harness update. I ride harmony grove/ellfin forrest road everday except Saturday cause its infested with ten speeds. i do most of it rides mid week when no ones out. and usually always take the long way home unless I'm in a hurry and stay in 5 th gear unless I'm doing the ton. I think the 5 grand thing is inconclusive cause there no way froggy gets the gas milage he does ridding up in that rpm range. I don't think his stator has failed yet?!?! |

7500 miles on my 09 CR, with 74xx of those being below 5k RPM, only about 500 miles with the stator harness. Nothing has blown up yet! |

Perhaps THE most important question once all this thread's bs settles - warranty runs out - is the following; IN THE FUTURE, IF and WHEN ANY year model fails on the stator and/or charging system related parts... Will there be individual/year to year part numbers to replace them or do ALL model years need to UPGRADE to a MODEL "standard" Stator, VR, harness and relay assembly with or without another flash? Thanks if anyone can answer with any credibility. |
