I just picked up a DRZ400 supermoto and have been cruising the forums looking at mods and potential problems. Guess what.... STATORS are a known issue with these bikes. Apparently the bolts come loose and cause a catastrophic failure well catastrophic maybe dramatic but still! thought you guys might appreciate todd now wheres my locktight |

All bikes have their weak points. Take advantage of a forum, learn the weakness and do what you can to prevent it from being an issue. |

check your chain guide in the back. I have a drz-400 and on my first ride the chain guide came loose and got wedged in the chain. Other then that the bike has been rock solid. |

Hey Todd, so I guess you went ahead and bought a DRZ after all. The one I sold (and you test rode) had the modifications done. I did them based on a lot of the info on thumpertalk. Red loctite on the stator bolts and the primary reduction gear nut on the right side of the crankshaft, and replaced the automatic cam chain tensioner with a manual one. Have fun with that bike, they are pretty cool. |
