I have to say thanks to Dean for making these, this is by far the most bad ass pipe I have ever heard on a bike. Yes it's loud! But it sounds killer. For those of you who have a chance, fire up your bike with just the mid pipe on...sounds like my 13.5:1 compression aluminum headed 512 cu in mopar! SERIOUSLY, this thing sounds like a 700 hp big block with out the muffler.
Sounds REALLY loud but as a fellow gearhead, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! But you forgot the year and model to complete my mental picture!
Dktechguy112 -- No, I've done it once without any problems getting it to fire, but it sounds weird, like it's under water. I doubt I'd ever do it again, but I had to hear it once just to say I did.
95yardbird -- One more in front of yours, I cut the collector down tubes and midpipe today while waiting on an answer for another job. Didn't get time to do any welding on it, but everything is pre-cut now and ready to go. Just need to finish up an MT-1.
Regarding firing up a motor without exhaust on it, the lack of backpressure can theoretically cause the exhaust valves to get slightly warped. Or at least that's what one of my auto shop teachers told me many years ago. It's not something that will be very obvious (unless you run the motor like that for a long time) but valves that are slightly warped won't seal as well and will cost you a little bit of power.
Firing up your bike for 30 seconds with no muffler probably won't make a lick of difference, though.
Hey Mr. Adams, do you have a video of a stock pipe taken with the same camera? That sounds nice and deep, but not to loud. It would be nice to hear the stock pipe under the same conditions.
No, I don't, but I could possibly try to get one tomorrow morning. I have to take it in to Gateway for a water pump leak anyway and I don't have any of my custom pipes handy to put on it now. Al's got both of my spares right now for the shootout.
Stock pipe for reference, same camera, Nokia N75 phone. You can hear a LOT more engine noise with the stock pipe, also notice all the steam being blown back right at the caliper/wheel. Even with the camera right on the pipe, same distance away (maybe a 1.5 feet?) it's definitely a lot quieter. I managed to break the original clamps after taking this pipe off probably 30-40 times. Stainless clamps won't hold up to repeated removal, HD updated the part to the beefier clamp on the outside. Local dealer only had one, so that's all I got for now.
I will keep an eye out for a stock pipe to send you. I don't want to send mine until i can hear this pipe in person. It sounds great and I actually like the stock pipe look, but if it's to loud, then I want to be able to go back.
Bueller4ever -- It's really not that loud, barely over stock sound, it's just got a little bit of thump to it. There will be at least one at Homecoming this year, possibly 2 or 3. There's one near you in Orlando also.
Got about 40 miles on it today with my ebr ecm. This thing ROCKS! It's loud but sounds like awesome. Had 3 people ask me about it in just that short trip.
Me butt dyno likey!
I think one thing this pipe will help me do is slow down and alot of short shifting to keep the Cops 2 blocks down from noticing! LOL
