Just trying to gauge how effective the 3 bearing rear wheel is on bearing life - anybody here had any problems in that department yet ? Anybody had better than average ( for a 2 bearing wheel ) mileages for 2010 models ? Mine's done about 1500 miles and are still good - but I've been asked the question on how the upgraded wheel is holding out bearing wise. |

I've not had one of the 2-bearing systems fail yet, and I beat the piss out of mine... |

My 08 1125R has 10,233 miles its drag raced every thursday. No problems at all. My 04 XB12R had 24,630 miles on it it when I sold it to buy the 1125R and never had bearing issues's either, and was drag raced every thursday night as well. |

""My 08' went 25,000 s'miles before the rear bearings went bad."" While my CR has just over 10K...to have to replace bearings at 25,000 miles is crap. I've got three bikes with just shy or over 100,000 miles....NO need to change any chassis bearings (axles, steering head, swingarm). The used XB12R I bought needed one rear at just over 10,000 miles...! Poor design (now three in rear!, or bad manufacturer...or). Mike |

Some get 50k+ miles on the bearings without issues, some don't. There is an 06 Uly running around with 94k miles that has original belts and bearings, only issue was an oil cooler leak. |

Interesting reading - so has anybody on that side of the pond got any horror stories regarding wheel bearings ? It's just that they don't seem to last as long in the UK - the bearings in my 08MY 1125R only lasted 4,000 miles, and there have been stories of bearings replaced at 1,500 miles ! Perhaps it's because we drive on the left ... |

Many variables contribute to bearings lasting or not. My ST1300 has had 3 sets of rear bearings in it's first 25,000 miles. Since then it seems to have calmed down. (first was due to axle stuck, 2nd was due to Technician, 3rd finally installed properly. You know something is wrong when you hear and see a Tech wailing away at your rear wheel with a sledge hammer. I put an immediate stop to that!!) If the bearings are not installed properly from the start and the axle is not torqued correctly during tire changes, this may result in shortened bearing life. Environmental factors are a different set of variables. Neil S. |

In Nov 2008, my wife and I set out on a trip from our home in Tacoma, WA to meet my dad in Ontario, California. From there, we planned to ride to Beatty, NV via Las Vegas, NV and then through Death Valley. On the first day of our trip, the weather was not cooperating. It was POURING rain. 175 miles later, at 80mph on the freeway (slowing down from a quick blast at 100mph), the rear end of my bike gets really loose and I hear a horrid noise. Gently slowed down, pulled off the highway, dismounted, and inspected the bike. Belt is a bit frayed at the edge from contacting the guard, but I don't see any reason for it. Make a few calls to area shops and Paradise H-D is only 20 miles away (but in the wrong direction) and said they'd send a truck for us. A DOT truck pulls up and stays behind us while I limp to the next off-highway location which is a truck scale with a small parking lot about 1 mile away. An hour later there's no truck. I call back to find out that the guy didn't see us after two passes and started to head back (even though I updated Paradise with my whereabouts). So they told him to get back there and find us which he eventually did. We had him load up both bikes and were very glad to have a warm & dry crew cab truck to ride in out of the rain. They quickly determined that the belt-side rear wheel bearing had failed, damaging the wheel at the same time. 2 hours later the bike was fixed! They took the wheel off a brand new 1125R on the floor and installed it on my bike in order to get us back on the road since they knew of our trip plans. Very cool! Unfortunately, however, by then it was dark and still wet out, so we decided to stay in a hotel for the night. Since we lost half a day on this problem, we had to reroute through Reno and down NV to Beatty to meet my dad and his friends at the hotel instead of meeting them in Ontario and riding with them through Las Vegas. The bearing mishap was only the 1st of 6 bike problems on the trip, most of which involved my 1125R. Paradise H-D saved our trip and we had a great time, all things considered... Here's a short video of my favorite part of the trip. (Message edited by chameleon on April 26, 2010) |

My left rear bearing started puking grease at 1500 miles. Several calls asking the dealer on a delivery time went nowhere, the parts dept wouldn't call me back, two times I called and talked to the parts dept. directly only to have them rush me off the phone with the promise of a return call that never came. I called no_rice, he shipped me a full set of the black seal bearings at a great price which I installed at home. I talked to a service writer that said they were going to transfer a set from another dealer, no word if they ever made it. I like my Buell but I don't have time for that kind of stuff, chances are it won't be around too long if this keeps up. |
