I had the carbon canister put on my 08. The dealer didn't charge me any labor but I had to pay for the can and hoses out of pocket. Then I saw this thread and called Harley customer service and got an authorization code to call my dealer with to see if I could get reimbursed for the parts. It took two weeks but Harley got back to my dealer and I will be reimbursed for the parts. I was also informed that this was only a band-aid fix and that very shortly would be getting a notice in the mail for a permanent fix. I felt good when I left the dealer knowing Harley was going to really fix the problem and not just "band-aid" it and call it good enough. |

Permanent fix?? I was looking to have the canister put on in the next few weeks, but I may put up with the smell in the garage for a little while longer. |

did they give any idea what this permanent fix is and how long till its out? I was thinking of doing a catch can set up on mine but if they are going to come out with a fix soon I might not even bother. |

That is good news, I was going to getting the cali can in about a month too. Maybe I will wait and see what happens. |

They didn't give me any details, but if you can get the carbon can covered for free you might as well get it. My dealer had the can done in about half an hour and even for a temporary fix it was worth it. Knowing Harley it may take a while for the real fix. I know they told me I'd get a letter about it soon, but it took them 2 weeks to get back to me about the refund. For now it's not leaking on my swing arm or garage floor so it's a good start. |

The permanent fix is a fuel line reroute that puts it into the muffler, and a small igniter to create an afterburner |

My 08 is at the dealership now for the canister can. The dealer called me to inform me that he is also putting in a frame insulation kit like the 09 has to keep the fuel from boiling in the frame. This my be the fix they are talking about. This is all covered under my warranty. |

I have an 09 and it would still boil the fuel even when the AT was around 60 degrees. I am sure the insulation helps some but don't be surprised if you still boil the fuel sometimes when it is hot out. |

Permanent fix? Can't imagine what that would be, but having H-D pay for my CA canister install was plenty 'permanent' enough for me! Mike |
