it was all because of that relocated IAT sensor! You should have left it where it was, it created an imbalance on the right side... |

Thanks for the graphic description - I particularly enjoyed hearing of you grinding your finger down... YUCK!! Seriously - I hope you're better soon, the weather is getting better every day so you need to bet fit ASAP so you don't miss out. When will you get a chance to check the bike out? Broken collar bones are a pain - there's no way to secure them (without pins) so they can take a while to heal if you're not careful and FFS make sure you don't do any laughing, between the rib and collar bone you'll know about it if you do! |

This one is after the ER doc did some work
Yeah! right? Going for surgery on Monday. they have to fuse the last joint together... Seems like it might turn out alright. Recovery time = 6-12 weeks Hopefully I'll get my girl back in the next day or so |

I just tested the IAT location at the snorkel and the airbox and the airbox reads 10F higher than ambient while the snorkel reads 3F higher than ambient while on the road at 45-55 MPH. Crawling up a steep gravel drive for 1.25miles in 1st gear at 15MPH the snorkel read 14F higher than ambient and the airbox read 11F higher than ambient. This is with the airbox inner cover in place. Bottom line is the relocation is going to do exactly the opposite of what you want. |

I don't think it's a matter of making it read higher or lower as the primary concern, it's making the IAT read *accurately* the temperature of the air entering the intake. Right? KeS |

Somebody needs to consolodate these threads. This is getting hard to keep track of lol. But thanks to everyone contributing. Its fascinating. |

Hey Kevin. If Buell put it where it will read close to ambient at road speed why would it be a good idea to relocate it somewhere that reads a higher temperature? The higher the temp the less fuel the ECU will give the bike is my understanding. I'm sure the engineers worked all this out ages ago, so modifying something is always a gamble. |

Fingerless Captain Types! Mountain, you misunderstood the reason for me relocating the sensor it seems.... Kevin_Stevens said it correctly... I am NOT trying to fool the ECU, I am trying to make it accurately see the correct temp of the air being ingested into the motor. I think that the location at the snorkel reads too hot when not moving and too cool while moving. Air passes by the IAT sensor at the snorkel while moving but does NOT necessarily go into the intake or motor. Example: Stock... we know the radiators blow hot air towards the intake. This is reflected by the stock IAT location. With my mod this is not show by the IAT because the motor is not actually ingesting all of that hot air, some yes, all... no I think the air box in it entirety heats soaks slightly which is shown by my mod which shows what the motor is taking in. Whatever temp air happens to be by the stock location is show and is what the ECU thinks is going in but is not true. |

I think you type even better now Capn. I got a notion that mounting the IAT sensor on the fairing is going to be HUGE. Al will soon be selling CNC aluminum IAT holders that clip onto the inside of the pods. Buell will post a Bulletin with a part number for a longer cabled IAT sensor and a pair of cable ties for lashing it to the handlebar. And BlackFlash will start selling galvanized steel IAT holders on eBay for slightly more than anyone in their right mind would pay. It's the next big thing...trust me on this. I gotta go road test my Dry Ice cupholder IAT mod...BRB. |
