Well, now there are at least two Buells running around with hardbags. These are the bags off of my 2002 VFR. I'm thinking at some point in the future I'll paint the bags to match the Buell, but I've got a trip to the Ozarks coming up and don't have time to worry about girlie stuff like color matching accessories. I still have to extend the wiring for the turn signals and paint the brackets black. They've been tested up to the ton and are rock solid. I can't take fabrication credit as I have zero welding skills. |

Looks good. Paint them semi flat black, brackets and all and you'll be amazed how good they look. Use Plasticote engine enamel. |

Yeah, I was thinking of going flat black, maybe even crinkle coat, to match the texture of the rear fender. |

Great job. Givi has made Honda's bags for years. Those are a close cousin to my Givi V35 bags. |

Looks great; however, I'd be a little nervous about the mount on the license plate bracket. Being plastic, it surely wasn't design to take the weight. |

Jason: Take a closer look. The tabs the turnsignals are on are freestanding. This my V35 adaptation: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/369913.html?1213799586 As I said above, Givi makes many of the OEM bags for the Japanese, British and Italian M/C mfgs. |

Neat work on the hardbag mounts. I've been looking at some no name hard bags they have flooded eBay with, not as nice as the Honda bags, but a little slimmer. Seems like using the rear passenger peg mounts would be a good place to bolt on a bracket. |

I can't see where all of his attachments points are. I have three attachment points: Top of footpeg bracket, arm on footpeg bracket and strap under the seatpan. I also have a "spreader tube" at the turnsignal mounts. After 25,000+ miles I feel my design is robust enough for this application. If you want anymore details or fabrication tips let me know, I'm glad to share. BTW Givi offers brackets for the VFR. I used the Givi brackets for the V-Strom and modified them for this application. Anthony, this might help for your application: No welding required just some heat bend the tubes and a rivet-nut gun to install the rivet-nuts. Send me your e-mail if you need more. Neil S. |

Okay, here are some detail shots of my mounting points. There is one support welded to a plate that is sandwiched between the subframe and the passenger footpeg hangers. Then we machined one inch long spacers for the screws that hold the license plate bracket on. Those screws attach to the subframe, so we knew that would be a solid mount point. Here you can just see the bare metal spacers. Another view of the same bracket. Sorry it took so long to get detailed shots of the mount points. I've been away from the computer pretty much all weekend. And yes, I've got a new set of tires in the garage waiting to be mounted soon. |

I have only installed longer bolts on the rear mounting point. I do want to get longer bolts for the footpeg hangers though as I don't have a full nut on there now. I plan on trying the Fastenall store first. |

Tyrroneous, I really like your idea of using a spacer between the rear subframe mounts plus an adapter plate, to provide a solid anchor point for the rear bag mount: I had been thinking about doing exactly the same thing to adapt my BMW System Cases to my 1125R, and I'm glad to hear that someone has already tried it. I'm glad to hear that your spacer idea worked out. Can you provide any other details about the spacer design? (inner/outer diameter/ length, what size bolts you ended up needing, etc.) I know it's been a long time since you've done the work, but I'm hoping that you kept some notes so that I don't have to re-invent the wheel. thanks. |
