my instrument cluster got smashed in a wreck, and it also smashed the cable that connects to the IC, i looked in my service manual, and it says it is a tyco connector, but the service manual does not say how to take that type of connector apart. Does anyone know how to take this connector apart, are there any tools that i will need to acquire? Thanks in advance for the help. | ||

I would wait for Avc to say whats in the manual Iv taking all the different types of connectors apart before but I would need to see a pic of it to give you a solid answer. plus it pays to have the right tool it can be done with out it but it is a p.i.t.a!!! | ||

here are a couple pics of it, its the one that has the rubber boot on it. i just got word from the place i ordered the parts from, that the connector is on back order for 5 weeks. its p/n Y0095.02A8, i was looking in the parts manual, and it shows to p/n's associated with the IC, Y0095.02A8 and Y0096.02A8. Y0095.02A8 is the connector, and Y0096.02A8 is the socket. I'm not sure which one i need, or if i need both, I hope i only need the socket, if i need the connector, then i'm gonna have to wait a while.   | ||

Aww crap! Forgot to look and post. You gotta get this thread up to the top around 9 or 10pm eastern! That connector is about $2 from a Tyco distributor such as mouser or digikey. They will probably have it in stock too. ac | ||

how do i find a tyco distributor? If i can't find it somewhere, that little piece is going to keep my bike down for 5 weeks, it sucks to be @ the mercy of a $2 piece of plastic. | ||

I just gave you 2 sources: Mouser Digikey I had the part number figured out, but it is at home. It is a 20 pin connector. It is referred to as a Multi Lock. I don't think they had too many. ac | ||

5 week isn't that big of a deal since you will be waiting for other parts that long... Figuring out part numbers for connectors is a PITA, but it will save you time and money. Let's hope you don't need a special crimper to re-pin the unit. Those can be costly. | ||

kirb, i have most of the parts, and the ones i don't have will be here next week. I know the part number from buell for the connector, i am going to try to find a part for tyco. I searched for multilink, but there are a lot of mutlilink part numbers on the tyco website, if you could post up the p/n that would be great. Thank you a lot for the help. | ||

thanks, i see the part number now, i missed it this morning. are you sure that is the right p/n? I pulled up the pdf on that p/n, and it looks different then the connector on the buell. I just want to make sure that is the right part, and i will order it through mouser. | ||

I have stated that I "think" that is the part number. CALL mouser. They know the product they sell generally. I believe the .pdf they show has the back clips opened because that is how it will come from Tyco, ready to accept the pins. ac | ||

thanks for your help avc8130, i appreciate you looking it up, i am getting an electrical diagnostics manual, so i will look up how to fix the connector when it arrives. I do have one other question, i looked @ the connector today, and i noticed the wires have pins on them, and many of them are bent, do you know how i would go about ordering new pins? | ||

If you call Mouser with the connector # and they should be able to reference the terminals needed for the connector. I'm surprised that the dealer doesn't have the terminals in stock. Did you ask anyone in the service dept. They usually have all the terminals necessary to perform electrical repairs. The recommended crimper is this: Packard 38125-7 or Kent Moore J38125-7 These 2 are expensive and not necessary! i just realized that there are 2 p/n associated with the ic wire, one is the black plastic connector, which is back ordered, and one is the for the pins, which they have in stock, that makes sense now. |
