Tibman260; It sounds like I should not be riding until I can get it fixed. Does that mean the stator will be replaced as well or that any future issues will be a part of the warranty? dannybuell |

Stator replacement depends on if you are seeing any issues currently. If you haven't noticed any problems, get the fix and everything should be taken care of. I would not say stop riding your bike, just get the fix asap. This isn't an issue that develops over night and is very dependent on your riding habits. If it were my bike I would keep riding without giving it a second thought. |

Tibman260; The battery light has come on in traffic 2x and whenever key is on and engine is off. The voltage display on the speedo never shows any movement when revving the engine or idling. The letter stated in Ratbuells Post on Thursday, February 18, 2010 - 09:11 am: "In the interest of customer satisfaction, Buell Distribution Company, LLC is offering a no cost upgrade installation of a sub-harness which provides the improved charging system durability on the motorcycles described above built prior to September 24, 2009." That durability part has me concerned that I may be doing harm. dannybuell |

Then I would mention to the dealer that you were experiencing the battery light while driving and are concerned that the stator needs replacement. They will probably have to order the stator if they decide to replace it which may take awhile but they can at least get the harness installed. |

weird. I have not recv'd any letter and my 09cr sticker says it was built in march. It also was one of those "ordered" bikes that I had to wait on while they got returned to the factory and updated. (so says service manager) |

This isn't a recall. AFAIK they won't send letters out to owners, it's strictly a DEALER notification. As in, "if a customer brings a bike in with xxx problem, we're aware of it, and here's the fix". |

My stator had to be replaced. they replaced today. Got home, with 700 miles on the bike and the low beam is burned out.....wonder if replacing the stator blew the low beam? |

I'm in the shop now to get the work done. I came in a few days ago when I was in to pick up my shirt from Jay (thanks!) and asked if I had the most recent flash, they ran my VIN and I was eligible for the kit. Up till now only 1 instance of a hot start issue but who am I to turn down free updated parts? |

I just took my bike back to HD yet again... Well lets get the whole story. After the fork seal issue was fixed, I went to pick her up and the batt light was on... Ok my bike has been at the dealer for 3 weeks and they didn't put a tender on it. Thanks guys! Rode above 5k at all possible times and it seemed like the batt voltage was coming up. I've had my bike for a total of 2hrs now, went to a buddies house and someone backed into it with a truck and knocked it over on the clutch side. It started fine for the 65 mile trip to work and I rode with only low beam on and rpm ranging between 5-8k the whole way, meanwhile the batt light is going on and off every once in a while. Charged it the whole day at work (7hrs) and started for the ride home. Everything was fine for the first half of the journey then the light started to cycle on and off quite frequently. So I look at the displayed voltage on the cluster and ridding at 6k the voltage was going up and down between 11.9-14.4 volts..... Hmmm not right. I get about 16 miles away from home and the voltage is not cycling any more but is now @ 11.7 and falling.. Shit! no more charge! so I start riding fast so I could make it to the dealer. Doing 95mph through traffic hoping there's no cops... I don't wanna be stuck on the side of the road. Made it to HD and the batt was showing 11.0V whew! That said, they ordered the half-ast fix it kit and a new stator. And not to mention that looking at my forks, the one they did the work on is sitting way higher in the triple than the other and who know what the preload, compression, and rebound are set to.... Looks stock |

It should be covered under his standard 2 year warranty. |

I just called the dealer, gave them my Vin # and had the parts ordered up. The bike only has 1200~ miles on it, 30 of which are actually from me; therefore I do not know if the bike had any noticeable charging issues. I will let you guys know how the dealership work goes. I am gonna get the flash version checked out while the bike is in the shop too. I am glad I read about this issue, I highly doubt the dealership would have initiated anything. |

Everything that has happened to my bike has been covered under warranty no questions asked. . . The way it should be. |

I just got the charging system harness letter in the mail today. I guess I'll have them come get it. The price is always right when it's warranty - So long as they don't keep it long! Mike EDIT: I meant to say I got the letter in the mail today about the harness, not the actual harness as I wrote incorrectly in my first pass ... (Message edited by milleniumx1 on March 12, 2010) |

Mike - Do you have a pic of the harness. The dealer said they did mine, and I think I see something different under the seat (yellow cables that I swear were not there before). I'm curious though as it did not show on the work order, while the water pump and turn signals did. I really think they did the work, I probably left that sheet on the desk of service |

Eece, I have no idea where the sub-harness they are referring to is. I can snap a picture under my seat before they take it, and then snap one when it comes home to check for differences. Chances are there's folks here that know much more about this upgrade than I do ... Mike |

This isn't a recall. AFAIK they won't send letters out to owners, it's strictly a DEALER notification. Seeing as how my '09 CR has never seen a dealer outside of the initial sale, maybe they are sending letters to those owners. Or maybe they changed their minds. Either way, I got a letter about the repair. Wayne |

Got a call that my bike was done yesterday. Rode off into the sunset only to walk home after bike failed to start after it was hot. Going to put the Aprilia back together this weekend. I am tired of worry about stopping and not being able to get the CR started. I am becoming a little disappointed in the bike. Hopefully the dealer solves the issue. |

Yep. Got my letter today. While it doesn't actually say the word recall, it says that I need to bring the bike in. That pretty much sounds like a recall. Anyway, I needed to take it in anyway and since this issue wasn't actually causing me any problems, I am done even thinking about it. (Message edited by ratsmc on March 12, 2010) |

Received my letter 03/12, Have not had any charging issues on my 09CR, only have 371 miles on it though. Going to make sure I have the latest flash when taking it in to the dealer also. The only small issue I have had is the "surging or bucking" at low RPM'S but after reading the posts on this I've come to a conclusion..It just wants to be ridden! |
