I've thought about doing something like what you'd find on a Ducati, run the exhaust up under the tail, but I think it would take a lot of work and you'd have to remove the passenger pegs to make it work right. Two into one (oval tubing up the side behind the rider peg, might be able to leave the passenger pegs on?) then back to two cans, one to each side up high, although that would defeat the mass centralization effort. Hmmmmmm. Someone may have already done that though. Not a cheap one to make, but if it were done right, it would probably look damn cool. Maybe next winter when things are slow.
I'll try getting that single round can done this week or next. I'm slightly behind on other builds, so we'll see if time allows for me to play some. So many options, so little time, plus I still have my night job.
I may try shortening the primary pipe length to tuck the midpipe up a little closer to the engine. I'll have to add more to the midpipe for running it back to the muffler though.
That's a nice angle to the muffler D. It looks like the junction between muffler and midpipe is cocked, so if you can slip the primaries up a touch that would solve both issues. At any rate the polish really makes that look good.
That one was a customer request for that angle. It was just a test fit pic that I sent him, it's not tight there and had some room to move yet. I think I need to sub out the polishing jobs. It takes way too long to get it done. 3-4 hours for a good finish at least.
There is one problem with the way you angled it adams.Im not bashing here. But when you cut the angle on the muffler entrance to what a 18-20 degree to get the tucked look.Your now aiming all the hot air in one central area .And not straight through a perf tube as intended.Packing will burn out immediately. My prototype I cut open was the same way 18-20 degree cut. anyhow it burned the stainless packing to dust in that area.I hope noone bought one yet it needs some refining.Keep up the good work.
Started working on the 4" round can. Here's some test fit pics. Sorry, no end cap turnout yet, I'm running out of material. Pics are kinda crappy, I'm just using my cell phone for this one.
That's the cats meow their. Put a turnout on that beast and give it a great polish and I believe we have a winner. That looks great!! Honestly that looks good!!
If you want something that people (me) wanna' buy, angle the can out a little and put a slash-cut tip on it (a-la FMF full system) and charge your usual price ($500-600) or less if you're inclined.
EVERYONE I've talked to has said, damn, if that FMF full wasn't pushing $1300 on it'd be mine. Hug the can to the motor (like you've done), and figure a nice cap and slash cut tip that gets the gasses out of that area and i'll be on the list.
Yup he nailed it Adams . It is a straight through style. Straight through styles do require more tuning. I think the jardine is 2 " straight through. If I'm looking right yours looks like a 2.5 perf straight through tube. You might want to choke it down some if you decide to sell them as street slipons . If not then this pipe will definately need a serious tune . But in all it would produce more power than any pipe you made. That's my take. It does look good . Just get a good looking hanger, ss packing, and get that fmf looking turnout on there . Get it done. I like what I'm seeing. Get some sound up too.
From looking at the pictures at the fmf it looks not to be a straight tube slashed. It has a bend in it and they then slashed it in the curve. It's a very small bend they used.I guess a straight slash cut would work and keep the cost lower.
I like the middle .. straight slash cut. the bend slash cut looks good, but i'd take the middle over them all.
more or less (on you pic of the fmf full tip) ... you're right flash, it does look like the fmf has a radius'd pipe with a slash cut (like your first pic D), but for some reason I like the second one.
in person, i bet #1 and 2 look BA in person, just from those pics i'd take #2
Let me get one done and dyno'd, I want to know where it stands before I sell one like this. At this point, I'm just playing around. I started it with no packing, it is extremely loud and I don't expect it to get a lot quieter. Think D&D loud. It is a straight through can, after all.
damn you got in before i responded! yea that actually looks great. maybe have the slash cut with more of a side exit like the fmf, but damn .... that's sexy. i bet it's loud as hell too!!
I really like the single tube your doing great work will purchase one when I can. By the way I do high temp ceramic coatings in case you need it. Red 919-414-3247
hmmmm D&D loud? I don't know if i can handle that for the trips i'm gonna be taking this summer :/ guess i shoulda known lol
even IF it's not for me, it's a fantastic looking pipe ... the tip makes it.
Honestly I'll probably end up getting your single exit oval pipe with the tip slash cut like that. Not D&D loud, but nice rumble like your vids (perfect sound IMHO). Cuz if you think about it, the oval pipe looks exactly like the round pipe from the side ... both badass, especially when cocked up near the engine.
see what customer input get ya! we'll see how frivolous i'm feeling when the tax return comes!!
dangit D, you're so quick with your responses. that actually sounds great (and i've got my Grado SR80's on so reproduction's pretty true). obviously don't do it now (i'm not a instant satisfaction kinda guy lol) but take 'er outside when it's nice out and rev it and back off a few yards to get a sense of it's volume. having lots of videos and communication and pics is what i like about your business etiquette. i want that pipe lol
from that video in the shop it doesn't sound THAT bad. tax return's still a few weeks out :/

Well, maybe not quite as loud as a D&D, but it's definitely loud. The tone is totally different from a D&D, just much more mellow sounding.
For reference, here's the D&D I heard. Enclosed dyno room, blasting right at the camera. It's totally in your face, screaming at you. Mine don't do that.
Here's my dyno run with the single outlet.
Based on these two videos, mine's quieter and deeper than the D&D.
For comparison, here's the dual outlet from a little ways back. Personally, I think the dual might actually be the loudest of the one's I've built, now that I've listen to them all together.
It's also too late here to be running it any more tonight. All 3 kids are already in bed, they get up at 6 AM for school.
Will it be a popriveted can for maintenance? I thought it sounded good. I didn't hear it warmed up then revved but it sounded good idleing. After they warm up the sound changes some. Some of the high idle off the throttle rasp goes away too.
