Finally Got my bike back from an 11 day stint at the dealer. Getting off the 50 mile frwy trip this morning and there was almost no front brake... Ok, so I'll give it more (maybe it need to be bed in further after the new rotor). Long story short I get to the shop and the brake side fork has been bleeding out all over everything! (&*@^$@$^($*@$& WTF I've had fork seals go on my dirt bike but this seem extremely premature. I haven't even done ANY wheelies. I know there is a pressure relief in the Showa forks on my CRF... Only 4100miles on her. Have you guys had seals go yet?
Looks like more weeks at the dealer.... |

How long was your bike in the shop for that? |

I think it was about a week or just over , a VERY LONG week tho ! I'd recommend getting both sides rebuilt if I were you , might save you some "down" time later on...... |

did you ever soften the compression/rebound for the colder weather...? if you have the forks set pretty stiff , the colder weather could be a factor. sorry to see your troubles |

could be a bad seal, could be the result of thinking your CR is a dirt bike from your past posts it seams like you abuse the hell out of your bike. I personally would think it comes from the abuse u put your bike through |

The suspension is set for my weight (160) per the manual. The suspension probably actually get less use in the dirt than on the street... while there is more travel it is at very low speed. If i rode it like a dirt bike i would have swapped and crashed numerous times, so I don't think that's it. |

Are we not supposed to abuse our bikes? They're sold as "race bikes"... If I'm not supposed to ride my 1125R hard then I have some major issues. |

I didn't mean about riding them hard the way they are designed to be ridden (there is a difference between riding hard and abusing), I ment about your curb jumping and your trying to plow through a grader ridge and burying the front end up to the pods and the headlight. |

There's "abuse" as in "ride hard" and "abuse" as in jump of kerbs at high speed, enough to bottom out and smack the exhaust so it rips open.... Sorry Captain - I don't mean to sound like I am having a go but I suspect that some of your (entertaining it has to be said) antics may have contributed.. On the other hand it could just be a bad seal.. It never ooccured to me before that only having one rotor might cause an issue with brake failure when a seal goes.. Ya, really the only thing Abusive that could contribute honestly would have been flying off the curb. The snow bank stuff was just powder, not hard. I didn't ram my bike into it haha. I would never do anything like that I'm thinking its just a bad seal. Hopefully HD can pre-order the parts until I can get the bike to them tonight. |

I was surprised when you said "no wheelies" though - I'd have thought you'd have been one of the first to hoist Hope you get it sorted quickly.. |

I guess you guys didn't watch this year's Isle of Man TT??? http://www.iomtt.com/Photo-Gallery/TT-2009/2009-Pr actices.aspx That's probably a little higher than a curb... All I can say is that I'm glad you didn't die, Captain...front brake failure is a nasty thing to deal with. (Message edited by drawkward on February 26, 2010) |

Haha - I have done about 1,000,000 wheelies, I just wanted to be clear that I haven't done any since getting it back from the dealer last night. p.s. I always try to set the front end down easy from one. no slap downs... that makes me cringe. Drawkward - I would definitely say that those front tires are above curb height. I am impressed with brake performance with the fluid all over it actually. It wasn't a total failure... More like a feeling of a huge air bubble in the line, and after I rode it and built up some heat, it improved. I just hope that the contamination doesn't lead to needing new pads or something. I still have to ride 65 miles To HD tonight. |

Make sure they replace the brake pads. Good luck getting a set soaked with fork oil to perform properly ever again. ac |

That's what you get for jumping off curbs and running into snow banks! |

Did your bike make that clunk noise when you loaded the front suspension? My bike is doing that which many say is "normal", but it seems awfully loud and makes the noise each time I put the bike on the kickstand as well. |

My front end has made the clunking noise from the front end since day one... It makes it rolling over little bumps... |

The clunk noise is probably the normal noise that you guys are hearing. My noise was so loud that I had the dealer check it out a couple of times, then I sent a video of it to Buell for them to review, they also deemed it normal and explained why it made the noise. All made sense, what I had found matched up with what they said. Its well documented in the archives. Its interesting what you will find in the snow, lots of dirt and grime. Stuffing the fork into the snow would be a great way to expand the dust seal and get the crap up in the seal. As tempting as the sidewalk and snow banks seem, this is not an off road bike! That's what you have your Honda for and that's what I have my WR450 for. I bought a set of supermoto tires and wheels for mine, now that's fun on the sidewalks and steps! |

Look further down the forum for "dirt getting past the stock filter". There's a link to the filters, K&N part # RD-6020 They are not a perfect fit as you'll see in that post. |

When oil is cold it is thick. When old oil is cold it is thicker. 4000 miles from this sites #1 hot dog in the last few weeks might be hard very hard. The people I know warm their tires up and all of the oils. After 10 minutes of riding it is a pretty safe bet that the fluids will have heated up and thinned down a bit. This is now play time. Not sooner, maybe even a bit later. Do you start it and start out or do you wait until the engine comes up to temp? I let my air cooled s1 and cr warm up a bit before I start out. I baby them for several miles before I ask for anything from either bike. I also think you need to get to the next level in performance. Fresnobuell posted an excellent suspension video link. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/541587.html?1267134656 The speaker in the video mentioned gpsuspension several times, they can make a custom setup for an aggressive rider like you. www.gpsuspension.com dannybuell (Message edited by dannybuell on February 26, 2010) |
