My theory has always been, find a good name brand oil, not Pep Boys brand or O'Reily, change it often and make sure you're not low. Syn, dino, doesn't make a difference, just change it. I've used Rotella T, HD Syn and dino, Amsoil and Mobile 1 over the years and honestly haven't noticed a difference or had ANY oil related problems. Just make sure to change often, and with quality oil. Now go ride.

If it were an air cooled v-twin I'd say go with the synthetic just to be safe. With these liquid cooled bikes I don't think it's as important. Even in GA. I ran all types in liquid cooled bikes in Texas and never had an issue. A long time ago I ran a parade in Texas in late May with my air cooled Harley. Long parade, very slow, a lot of bikes were dropping off but I had to issues. I was running Amsoil at the time. That is the one instance I would say it may have made a difference. Oil looked fine when I checked it later. I usually run Syn3 or Amsoil. Lately Syn3 as I get a deal at my dealer. Used HD dino last summer. Was a gallon I had around and needed to use. Worked fine. |

I always use Mobil 1 20W50 for V-Twins. Why mess with anything else. It's a base 4 oil with absolutely no conventional base which means it has no acidity values. If you ride the best, run your engine with the best fluids... Mobil 1 V-Twin and Shell 93. |

Hog, You aren't lyin'. I have run a few of those "cool looking", hot ass parades on my Heritage Springer. They are brutal. I don't do parades and huge group rides anymore. Oh, and you mentioned Sny3... here we go... I wish the military px here carried Mobile 1 V-Twin. They only carry Castrol Dino m/c oil. |

Mobil 1 vtwin or Amsoil 20w50 are the best. Now that I've settled that, I use mobil 1 vtwin because it's available at my local auto parts store. |

Ive always used Castrol 4T 20-50 that you can get at OReillys for about 4 dollars a quart, and it works better than the HD expensive stuff IMO. I was always a 4cyl bike guy before the 1125, and always ran Repsol in my bikes. I can tell you right now, that the 1125 HATES Repsol. I used it once and my clutch was slipping and all kinds of stuff. Definatly dont use it (unless you ride a jap bike). |

-I get that the MANUAL says to use the 20w50, but here in AZ it gets 100-120 degrees in the summers, would the 10w40 be better? -Could you benefit more from a full SYN? -And, where is it possible to obtain a oil filter from? I've seen some posted on EBAY but always seem to run out of time. -I thought I have seen a K/N oil filter for the 1125 R/CR ref.# posted on BADWEB before, does anyone have that # again, please. |

Otto the HiFlo filter is in the Tucker Rocky book for like 7-8 bucks. its a good filter and unlike the air filter you cant reuse the oil filter. (Message edited by joshinga on February 28, 2010) |
