Just doing some needed maintenance on my '08 1125R and taking out some slack in the throttle cables and wondering....?

With my new EBR race ECM my engines idle is a little higher, about 1600 rpm with a recent TPS reset, So.....can I adjust the throttle stop screw a little to bring the idle a little lower or, is everything controlled by the ECM? Throttle plates seem pretty close to being closed almost tight already and the set screw is somewhat tamper proof but still a threaded screw.

Also, please do not guess. I would appreciate experience only, and thanks much. Bob

Been trying to slow my idle for two years now Bob.
SOL, it's fully ECM controlled, the job of the IAC motor.
Also seems to depend on several sensor inputs like AT and voltage.

I wouldn't touch it Bob.
Adjusting the throttle stop(s) could put the tps voltage out of range (below .3vdc)
and you could also close your throttle plate past fully closed and beginning to open in the opposite direction.

The throttle plates will go backwards!?!? Nice.

I want to just make the IAC orifice smaller. Restrict it a little to bring the idle down. Been thinking about this... Will it throw a check engine light? I'd like to hear the more thump more at idle like the 1203 motors or a SV8 with a big cam.

Captain_america -- You either need to buy an aftermarket pipe or modify the stock one for more thump. I'm almost afraid to offer one to you unless I can come up with some form of a a skid plate for the bottom.
On a side note, I don't think the plates will go backwards, from what I recall, most throttle butterflies are machined with a bevel and have a positive engagement for full stop or closure. They're also not perfectly round, but more of an oval in shape.

I put a breather filter on my IAC tube and it didn't throw a code. I could cover up most of the filter and see if it lowers the idle.

You could easily put a piece of tube inside the stock tube in order to restrict it.

D, No I meant lower the idle to get more thump like a car with a big cam. the Pa-Ta-To sound. I just need some oval exhaust tubing down there for max clearance... that's why i am going to go to SpinTech because they specialize in oval tube. If you make a skid plate system let me know ha ha.

I didn't think the plates would or should go backwards either. just going from what Therealassmikeg said. the butterflies are perfectly round but when that bevel is machined into them from the lathe it makes them sit in the venturi as if they were oval shaped because if you look at the butterfly like in my sweet pic it is not touched by the lathe on the sides where the shaft is but only on the ends.





Anyway, this is how the butterflies are in my throttle bodies...

Restricting the IAC tube will definitely lower the idle but you will get a code when it goes too low. I was inserting a smaller piece of like 3/16" vacuum line into the tube and it would drop the idle. I didnt ride it like this and really Im not sure this is a good idea though if the ecm is struggling to have the rpm at _____

Restricting the IAC might even make the engine stall out under certain conditions, like shifting gears or downshifting. I wouldn't do it, the ecm will be confused.

restricting the iac tube will more than likely just allow the ecm to open the iac until it achieves/or tries to achieve the idle it wants to see.
if you restrict it too much and the ecm cant achieve the idle it wants to see the ecm will probably flag a fault code for the iac w/ cel.

I recall seeing a tib for the 1125 regarding the throttle position sensor and malfunction of sensor, the repair was to replace the throttle body assy.
I wish I remember where i found it.

Good ideas you guys brought up, but I don't "think" you'll get the results you're looking for.

Jake, for cable slack, if all models of 1125's are the same there are two adjusters at the grip. One for pull open and one for pull closed. All I had to do was move the adjuster away from the bar, maybe 3/16' or so thereby shortening the cable, and it mad a nice difference. Then use the locking ring to secure it from moving again. The adjusters are under the throttle assembly and a little hard to see and get to.
