I have heard many complimentary things about both fork upgrade options.

Traxxion has a great reputation and will completely overhaul your forks and install their own compression and rebound valves--as well as some fancy shims...and re-spring if they springs are not correct.

The 25mm Showa cartridges are the drop in variety sold by EBR.

Both options can be had for about the same cost.

Looking for some opinions and reasons on which route will ultimately give a better performance on the track.

The one drawback about the Buell/Showa kit is it's really valved for track duty. So, if you aren't running in the quick group on track days, you may find it a bit much.

Traxxion will be able to value more for street or "sane" skill levels.

That said, if it were my money, I'd either go EBR/Showa or save up and go AK-20! AK-20 are some really awesome forks.

I wish there was more info on these Showa cartridges. Other than the info that is in the Buell Racing catalog (nothing of substance) or the EBR site (absolutely nothing of substance), there just isn't much info. Am I missing something?

One would think if they are really nice drop in cartridges and a great value, there would be more information on the kit--if nothing else as promotion stuff to sell some kits.

Considering that the AK20 kit is $1000 with new springs, that would probably be the way to go. If you sell the bike, you can pull the AK20s and sell them separately. And they should be relatively easy to install if you are even moderately handy with a set of tools.

I would do either the AK20 or the Showa EBR kit. There's no point in revalving your stock fork as you probably won't get much of that money back out of the bike when you sell it.

Out of curiosity, what specifically are you not happy about with the stock suspension?

Flesh--I don't have any real beefs with the stock suspension, but we all know there are some better options. I am due for a fork oil change (also have one seal leaking) and figured I might as well upgrade the forks while they are off the bike.

I plan to have a dedicated track bike (no racing) so I don't want to drop a grand plus installation on the Ak-20s. Just trying to get some opinions on which avenue to take (Traxxion revalve or Buell Showa Kit.)

Go Buell/Showa race kit, sprung to your weight.

It's the best option before stepping up to AK-20, in particular on a track bike.

Flesh has a good point. Both the EBR Showa kit and the AK-20's can be removed when you sell your bike. If you have the stockers revalved you can't try to recover your investment. Looks like the Showa kit would be cheaper and probably the way to go in your case. Which ever system you decide on please let us know how it works our for you.

quote:

Street bike = Traxxion
Track/race = EBR Showa Kit.

Why?

Traxxion for street = custom valving and springs for your weight and type of riding you intend to do.

EBR kit for the track = it's already valved for the track as that is the intent of the kit.

Now, i'm not an expert, but that is my take on it.

Can I toss another couple options on the table? Race Tech. Lindeman Engineering (www.le-suspension.com). Using RaceTech stuff in a couple of my damper rod bikes - no experience with them and cartridge forks though. Lindeman has reworked an older WP shock and rebuilt the OEM internals on the Ninjette rear. All of which is good. And they do fork work as well. Anyone else have thoughts/experience?

Of course. The only thing I have decided is that I am going to upgrade my forks. ALL options are being considered. Thank you for sharing.

If nobody chimes in I'll measure mine later tonight.

I went with the AK-20 cartridges for my 90% street, 10% track day bike, but money was not an object. I have no issues on the street with my set up, so it the Showa inserts are anywheres close, I don't think you would have any issues either way.

take a look at www.gpsuspension.com. Dave has 3 cnc machines spitting out fork/shock internals. Dave works the B team west coast racers and enthusiasts. The A teams are the factory boys.

Call around and see who will take the time to determine your needs.
Ask all of the vendors;

as a enthusiast or racer what are my
primary concerns for suspension tuning?

how many stages does your valving have?
