I've had this problem 3 or 4 times. Usually happens while coming down an off ramp or getting close to a red light. The engine just dies, like i hit the kill switch. Happens while I'm on the clutch. Anyone else have this problem?

happened to me once so far but hasnt happened since i got the newest flash.

also there are some people guessing that it could be a stator problem

I hAd that problem when I first got my bike then I got an upgrade on my flash and it never happened again. But come to think about it my stator went out around that same time and had to be replaced so I don't no which it was.

might just be a low mileage thing and as the engine loosens up a bit it will likely go away.... mine did this a few times in the first 1000miles

Latest flash fixes it on 99% of bikes. Make sure you have the most recent.

Thanks for the very quick responses. I need to go down to the dealership Monday to fix a problem with my license plate not fitting. I'll get them to check it out then.

My '09R was prone to die on decel with its originally installed 131 flash. Once I got the newest (M3HUS142) flash on there, it's never happened. Here's the last flash info I saw from Buell >>

'08R = M3HUS062
'09R = M3HUS142
'09CR = M3PUS152

I don't know about the '10 models, but one would like to think they'd have the latest.

Mine did/does the same thing... For while I could not reliably replicate the problem... Then I got it figured out.. I think...

From where I sit it appears that this occurs most often when the clutch is pulled with a closed throttle and the engine is above approx 3 or 4 K RPM. This happens for me most often when approaching a stop sign etc when I am not really using the binders to slow but rather the engine... At some point I decide enough engine braking grab the clutch and grab the binders... Stall... Flat on its face.
When instead I leave the clutch engaged and allow the engine to fall below say 2.5K rpm and THEN pull the clutch it seems to stay idling.

If I had to guess (which not having a clue as to what is going on here is all I am left to do...)
I would say that this is yet another EPA-PITA. The 2nd gen Yam FZ1 is known for having a very abrupt off throttle response above 4k... What is happening there is the ECM will cut fuel to the motor (ie stop firing the injectors) when the throttle is closed above 4k (Thank you EPA. This is a noise and pollution control mechanism to lower the decel db's as well as overall emissions in what is considered a moment when the engine needs no fuel). If the rider then attempts to apply throttle, it takes a moment for the now firing injectors charge to traverse the intake track. I'd suspect that the rider in this situation reflexively reacts to the delay by adding smidgen MORE throttle, leading to an over correction and the corresponding rectal puckering when the bike launches around underneath them...
I'm suspecting that something similar is going on here... At a cruising RPM when the throttle is cut I'd bet that either the sub throttles (Idle air valve.. what are they called on the Buell???) are either closing or like the FZ the bike is simply cutting fuel. When the clutch is pulled the delay either opening the subs or getting the injectors firing again is enough to stall the motor...

I had mine die on me a few times when I was at idle with the clutch in waiting on traffic or putting in a parking lot.I would be going slow and at idle in first gear and when I got ready to go I gave it the gas and she just puked and died.Hasn't happened since around 1200 miles.

Do you ride in the rain?

Pull your air filter and take a look. When they get moist and they are a bit dirty, it can be hard for the motor to pull air through it.

Ive been to my one & only dealer here in Sth Australia & they have no idea what I'm talking about when I suggest they check & maybe install the latest flash versions?
My bike is a Sept 09 build with 1000kms on it & cuts out on decel at least once or twice every ride. My dealer is no help whatsoever!
Do you think fitting an EBR ECM will fix this problem?

I had this happen as soon as I left the dealer when I took delivery,and 3 times on
the way home. After I rode the bike for around 20 miles It stopped.
When I filled it up the first time I filled it over the metal divider in the tank.
It began to cut out randomly again. After around 20 miles driven it stopped cutting out again.
I now fill it to below the metal plate and haven't had it happen since.
How full are you guys filling the tank, and does it happen soon after??

-I've had this happen, too. Three times and my '09CR has less than 300 miles on it. Almost got me rear ended in traffic.

-Millenium, thnx for the flash #'s, going to HD this week to check it out.

I also have a 09 1125CR and it did the same thing it stopped for awhile after thereflash but has done it after the flash several times. A further note I also had a TPS code set at a steady cruise( happened only once) and the dealer could not find a answer to that one either maybe those troubles will be addressed by the EBR ECM won't know if so until it warms enough to ride again ....shit,if and when it ever gets warm again, I live in Missouri, cold enough here the balls have started falling off the brass monkeys..

My 09 R did this for the first couple days I had it then it went away. Also test rode a CR last year it too did the same thing so when my R did the same thing I thought it because it was new. I now have 5300 miles on it and has not done it since it had less then 100 miles on it. If your bike has low miles on it, It my go away like mine did.

My CR has only died once while blipping the throttle at idle. I must be doing something different than the rest of you guys.

My personal opinion is it has to do something with the IAC motor not responding fast enough to the throttle going to idle ....may be something it will correct itself.....did both before and after the denoid with proper resistor,so I say that has more than likely nothing to do with it..I meant IAC motor code NOT the TPS code in my earlier post..
