I've often wondered about the flashes. My 08 hasn't had any. And when I first got it, it was terrible under 3000. I live on a military post, so it sees a fair amount of time at 25 and under. Anyway, the stuttering and bucking just went away. No flash no nothing. It's smooth all the way thru the rpm range and just as smooth at 10 mph as it is at 75. And now I don't want to take it in for one, because I don't want it to turn to crap. |

I put another 50 miles on my way home from work, including a run through Topanga Canyon. Now, I wasn't pushing really hard because it was dark and cold (OK, California cold), but the more I rode, the better things got (Closed Loop); the bike definitely makes more power, but the biggest improvement is in the handling... that's right, the handling. The feedback and response from the throttle is fantastic. The engine braking is much easier, smoother and more predictable, making turn entries downright prescient. Likewise for the roll-on out of the turn. I found myself shifting less, braking harder and being much more relaxed and accurate. Fun, fun, fun!! I have to reiterate that dyno results don't tell the whole story of this ECM; at least on my bike. The handling improvement alone is worth the $250 price of admission. P.S. I just want to be clear that I am in no way discounting the value of a dyno in tuning and those to whom the results of dyno testing are of paramount value. Rodrob, that is what I felt in regards to the handling. The zero to mid throttle and the reduced compression braking makes the bike so much more relaxed. By the way I'm in the valley so we ride the same areas. Maybe see you at the rock store some time. Mike |

Budgolf, I had the original flash for a while until my '08 started running quite smoothly. I got the latest reflash not too long ago. I feel the bike runs even smoother with the latest flash. Also, you get an added safety feature--- RPMs pick up above idle automatically when you let out the clutch. You have to realize that the original flash was based on some significant mistakes, including unit mismatch errors (something about Austrian and American engineers not communicating properly). Therefore, original flash does not reflect how the Rotax was designed/intended to run... my concern would be ill long-term effects to the engine. But, your choice. It's a free country for now. |

Pariah, I hadn't thought of it that way. I probably ought to go have them done. But I'm really kind of amazed at how the problem just went away. Almost like the bike just learned it or something. |

Bud & Pariah - if you can adjust the AFV to add +20% from 2-4k and the rest of the range +10% with the absolute original flash (Firmware: 'BUEWD0J6' from Dec '07) you'll have the benefit of having the race ECM's timing map and sufficient fuel to cure the lean condition. Its well known the original flash made more power than the later flashes. Mine pulls nicely and makes good SOTP power. Just my 2 cents. |

It might be above your head but your Butt Dyno will know the diff lol. Rodrob you really captured the feeling in words better than I could. ' And when you say the Dyno is not going to tell the whole story I agree 110%. It's not justa "Oh look at the gains" tune....much more subtle and useful than a few HP at top end. Thanks again! |

I've been running around on mine for over a week now, and have much the same to say. The bike is SO much nicer to ride now, and in my experience seems fatter in the midrange and just seems to go through the gears quicker. It pulls smoother down low, and seems so much more controllable and precise both on and off throttle. it is not so "peaky" on the top, and I can run around one gear lower now, it has smoothed the surging out so well. My bike is also idling a bit higher, about 1700 on the tach. I don't know how it would dyno or ET at the strip (we'll find out when Sears Point reopens in the spring) and my butt dyno can't really tell but I suspect it will run quicker and MPH higher. Lucky you. I'm stuck until the snow melts and that could be a while. |

I'm about to order the EBR race ECM & need to know if I should still De-noid? I like the idea of removing it & fitting the resistor but will I benefit in any way or worse still create a problem once the new ECM is fitted? |

I have read on there that the race ecm disables the noid, but it is still recommended that you remove it, as it weighs a good 10 lbs, and removing it can help throttle response. |

Denoid makes the throttle feel a lot lighter and somewhat more positive at WOT. |

Guys with the race ECM, please keep an eye on your odometer........ i noticed something interesting with mine this afternoon. |

Oh sure rub it in. My Odometer is under an inch of fresh powder and I don't mean cocaine. When will this snow stop? I spent an hour digging out the trailer and driveway an now there's snow all over everything again. I just cannot catch a break. |

More info on what you noticed would help. I'm going to assume your odo number is different from the stock ECM one. |

Well I just put another 140 miles on my bike with the Race ECM, HMF, K&N and it feels good man. I cruised at varied RPMs just to see how the bike felt at 4K 4.5K 5K and 5.5K and did some roll ons from 55 mph up to 110+ mph as traffic and road conditions allowed. Never got over 8K RPM probably and not much WOT action. I'm still satisfied the bike is happier and cooler with the RACE ECM. (Message edited by Mountainstorm on February 13, 2010) |

I put the Race ECM on my 2008 1125R today. It has a Jardine Exhaust, Stock Filter and the inner airbox lid is on. My findings: It fired up the first try. It idled good and had a deeper roar to it. Throttle and Drivability are definitely better. Low RPMs were smooth. (Less the 4K) Mid RPMs were smooth (4-6K) Higher RPMs built power as usual, but something seemed noticably stronger above 9K. Someone mentioned that shifting was less of a requirement now. I would agree. It made smooth power from 2500 RPM all the way too redline. Thats a huge window. I have no idea if its running lean, or rich or making more or less HP. But it does seem to run BETTER. If my bike continues to run the way it did today, then I am a satisfied customer. |

Hdwrench, How do you think the HMF compares to the FMF in terms of sound, size, weight, and performance?? Thanks Jake |

hopefully i will have a chance to make a video soon for sound comparison. size and weight seem about the same. the FMF has been the easiest to install. I have installed 2 FMF's, the HMF and the HR-1. |
