Just a little thread to keep track of the stuff that seems to need a bit more attention if you track your 1125r frequently. Tires: 'Nuff said. Never bring old rubber to the track. Brake Pads: The OEM brake pads wear pretty quickly for aggressive street riders and at the track. Check them often, as they may also wear unevenly. Caliper Rebuilds: I find every 4-5 sets of pads I need to pull the caliper, split it, clean it, and rebuild it. The Buell brake design throws a lot of dust and it can clog things up. Buell parts has a rebuild kit containing all new rings and pistons for about $80. When your brake pads wear obviously and drastically unevenly, it's time to rebuild the caliper. Oil: I change about every 4-5 track days. Rotor Mount Hardware: This one is non-obvious, and only has a symptom when it's too late. The drive bushings on the Buell ZTL brake are a wear item. Occasionally, they will wear unevenly, and because of the floating nature of the Buell Rotor, actually wear the inside of the mount points of the rotor significantly without indication on the visible side of the rotor. If you get a clacking sound while stopping -- it's too late. I haven't found a recommended service interval for replacing the rotor mount hardware, but it does need attention, or you will mess up your rotors. Rotors: These wear from aggressive braking (literally becoming thinner) and at the mount points from worn drive bushings. Clutch: I haven't had to service mine, but a lot of the faster guys go through clutch packs like I do brake pads. What else? |
