I have had my 1125 for 2 years now. I have done 8 track days with it so far. I am planning on doing another 5-6 track days this year. My question is has anybody had any issues with the motor giving up on them? I am worried I am going to hurt the bike by doing so many track days with it and commuting back and forth to work. I have been looking into xb track bikes but I hate to give up my 1125r. I really enjoy riding the bike but I don't want to tear it up before I have it paid off. I do change the oil after every couple track days.

Maintenance is everything. The bike was designed for hard riding and as long as you don't get a motor built with high performance in mind, it should be very reliable.

Continue to do your regular maintenance and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

You will be fine. Take care of her, and she will take care of you.

I'm going to start a thread about this, I think:

1. Increase your oil change frequency.
2. I STRONGLY recommend you flush brake fluid and replace with Motul RBF600.
3. Watch your brake pads and rotors carefully. Rotor mounting hardware is a WEAR ITEM, and if you are not on top of it, you will kill a rotor from the inside.

Basically, just pretend that every mile you put on the bike while on-track is like 6-10 street miles.

Oil changes after two track days isn 't enough? I am running Amsoil so I thought I could go at least two before I changed it. As far as brakes I have been running EBR pads since for the 2000 miles or so and they work great. But I will look at the rotor hardware. What is the deal with the brake fluid?

Some info on the AMSOIL in a race bike:

Ran for 5 race weekends then tested.

What about valve maint.? with all of the track riding should I have the valve adjustment done before 12.4K miles?

Can't hurt. Mine needed adjustment for the first check, and was OK subsequent checks.

I think you're worrying about this way too much. I just traded in my ZX-14; averaged just over 1000 miles/month commuting, weekend canyons, and 4-6 track days per year. It had normal fluid changes and other maintenance, valves were checked at 15K and were still dead on. If you changed the odometer out you'd think it was a new bike.

All you get at the track is some extra brake/tire wear.

The first time I had my 1125 track bike at Arroyo and one of the AMA pros saw it, he commented that the motor is solid from what he saw on the AMA tour last year. I'm planning to take mine to EBR for the 1190 lower end treatment next winter, but I'm not worried about this summer cause I stay below the rev limiter.

I had a guy tell me that Knapp went through alot of motors last season. So I was just curious about durability.

I think motor dependability varies a lot among rider.

The guys running race ECMs may have also bumped the RPM limits 500 or so RPM, so obviously that has the potential for reliability impact.

Also endurance vs. sprint...

this is what happened to me, after 11,000 miles of daily ABUSE!! No word as to what caused it...

The valve broke off and the valve seat blew off, then went THREW the piston and into the bottom end, where it destroyed EVERYTHING!! I was about 2 miles away from home, and i was still able to RIDE it home, spewing out so much smoke that I STOPPED traffic on the freeway lol....

Jake

BTW- this was with Harley Synthetic oil and regular (per maunual) oil changes, and the manual procedure break in...brigt side i got a BRAND NEW 09' engine for..FREE : )

Bikes like that are not running bone stock motors, and are using higher performance parts that sacrifice reliability. Knapp needs his bike to last the 40 or whatever laps of the race, not 40k miles.
