Has anyone made a lighter tail section using the stock tail section? I know Jdugger made one from scratch, but I'm not interested in doing it that way. If you look at the tail section from EBR it sure looks like all that is done to make it is cut off the stock unit. If you have made one please post up pics and descriptions of problems you ran into. Thank you if you can.

Yes i'm also eager to know what would happen if you buy the EBR tail section and EBR battery tray, would you then also need a shortened version of the tail plastics or just use the stock one? Would be great with a short plastic tail section too!

The easiest route is to take a stock unit and simply put the back end of it in a bandsaw.

You are going to have to re-route a lot of the cable work, find a new place for a battery -- and it's going to be very tough to stick with the OEM -- and it's going to be hard to retain the under tail plastic as well.

My approach sheds gobs of weight, but probably eliminates any possibility of riding in the rain.

The stock upper tail will support itself if you mount it on the two under and two upper mount points at the front of it where the subframe merges with the tank/frame. To secure the cowl, you will need to drill/anchor or glue the bit on, as you won't have a rear seat assembly.

All that stuff weights a ton. Along with an 8-cell lightweight battery, I can easily see shedding 15lbs in the tail section, and probably even 17.
