I was just told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to get the replacement parts damaged by my "Whoopsie!" back in December. Parts are: 1. Right mirror/turn signal assembly 2. Right radiator shroud assembly 3. Right clutch cover 4. Right side passenger peg. Does that sound right? Why so long?? |

because HD dropped the Buell line they only have to be able to suply replacement parts there is nothing that says that they have to stock them so if there is no stock sucks to say but you have to hurry up and wait. I'm not sure how HD's network search is set up, but if they have zero stock where they can search HD's PDC will put an order in to the manufacturor of the part and they are not going to do a production run for just one mirror they will wait till they have enough orders in for a production run Try search ebay or something like it you might be able to find used ones from say a wrecked bike |

Sounds right, probably the bodywork is whats holding it up. Even before the shutdown it would take a few weeks to get body parts, and after the shutdown it took about 3 or 4 weeks to get a new pod cover. If you want, I can send you a loaner mirror, footpeg and right pod. Only problem is, the pod says 1125CR on it, I don't want you to have an identity crisis or think that your bike turned into a lobster |

get ahold of the dealer that you ordered it from and see if it is just one or 2 parts that you are waiting for and if it is you could get aftermarket parts or like i said earlier ebay. I know i needed some cosmetic parts just shortly after i gor my r because of an oops the parts were still readily available but if i have an oops like that again i could deff see me going to something like bar end mirrors |

I waited over a month to get a new rear tire. I purchased the extended warranty so the dealer had to get the "part" from Harley. I guess there's no reason for them to stock tires now. |

I needed all those same parts, ordered them in early December it only took about a week and a half for me to get them. Edit: Just saw your bike is red, pod cover has to be whats holding you back, I would think the black ones would be the most common. (Message edited by JRedX1 on January 30, 2010) |

Black pod covers on a red bike may look really cool. Maybe a Photoshop whizbang could mock it up for you. |

It's my guess that HD still has not renegotiated contracts with their suppliers. But what do I know? |

Wifey is waiting for a flyscreen and chin fairing from mid December for her "woopsie" on her new Scg. I've already polished the road rash out on the f'ed parts, and had put 'spares' on I bought on fleabay. Yep, we're going to have to wait..... |

My average lead time on ordered parts since November has been in the 4-6 week window as well. Welcome to the new normal methinks. |

Crap. I was hoping to have the bike back in time for the Crotona Midnight Run... |

This is what I was affraid would happen. Looks like I should get my parts needed ordered asap, then look to unload it this spring. 4-6 weeks is unacceptable for little, common needed parts. I refuse to make payments on something I can't ride during riding season for some $15 part that is "special order". I'd rather ride something I can ride and get replacement parts in a more timely manner. |

Froggy: Thanks, but I still have the K1200LT... which is PROBABLY a smarter choice for "below freezing riding at night." The only thing is that I'd have to disconnect the GPS, as that is NOT allowed on the Crotona. Thinking of doing it again this year? If it weren't for the fact that I decided to have them reflash the bike, I probably would've just ordered all the parts from American Sport Bike and done the work myself... but my garage is NOT heated and I do have another ride so it's not so bad. Oh, and Badlionsfan: I think the issue is the radiator shroud. I don't think the other parts will take 4-6 weeks. It's the color-matched part that is slowing things down. I think the culprit in long lead times is probably the "just in time" philosophy that everybody seems to have these days. |

+1 Black I think this has become the new corporate way of doing business worldwide. It's not just Buell, or because Buell is no more... |

You could have someone at a dealership look up the part number and see if there was anyone that had it in stock. |

I still think this is the result of massive runs on all the parts. They're finally starting to fill the backorders on items; it will take a while to replenish stock at the warehouses. Dealers...well, it's up to the individual dealerships to decide what to keep on a shelf versus keeping it on an "as needed" order basis. Items that are classified "vendor direct" have always had longer lead times, and we may see some items changing to that status as HD phases out stocking items in HD warehouses...but October put a huge amount of stress on the system and the parts pipeline. It takes time to build enough parts to refill everything. |

Really? Good to know... without the GPS in its mount I'd have a bunch of wires banging and slapping around on the dash. Thanks! |

I'm not a parts guy, I'm in service. In the last year it seems there is backorder list of epidemic levels. One of the reasons being, vendors are shutting down and new ones have to be sourced. My opinion was based on the fact that I can't even get my broken tools repaired or replaced in a reasonable time frame. Sockets and and simple ratchet repairs can take weeks, sometimes months to get replaced... FWIW (Message edited by therealassmikeg on February 01, 2010) |
