I called FMF to find out what the difference is in weights between their titanium and stainless steel full exhaust systems. The sales support person I talked to said that the full Titanium system weighs 8.7 pounds. He did not have a weight for the SS system because they won't be available till the 3rd week of February. Does anyone know the weight of the Buell/EBR race pipe? It's my understanding that the FMF SS and the race pipe are pretty much the same system. The biggest difference in the Ti and SS systems is the price, $2700 vs $1700. |

Titanium is approximately 45% lighter than steel, so you could calculate out the weight of the full SS system from that. If the Ti system weighs 8.7 lbs, then you could theoretically assume that the SS system weighs about 12.6 lbs or so. 8.7 lbs seems awfully light to me for a full system, headers and all, but I don't know what type of packing they used, or really anything else about either pipe. I could see the slipon system weighing 8.7 lbs, the Jardine can I had weighed 9.5 lbs and was SS and carbon fiber. It's maybe 2 feet of thin-wall SS tubing, so that part didn't weigh a lot. |

I read on their site that both systems use SS tubing and just the can is titanium. So I'm thinking there isn't going to be much difference in weight. What ever the difference, it costs a grand. |

The 1125RR uses the FMF full system The DSB 1125R uses the Buell Race can. 2 separate full systems. (Message edited by barker on January 31, 2010) |

The Buell 1125RR Taylor Knapp raced at the Mid-Ohio AMA National wore the Ti FMF race system. The original "studio" photographs of the 1125RR had the FMF system. Knapp raced the Latus DSB bikes with SS FMF systems from Laguna on. Both Knapp and Cory West raced with the Buell (EBR) race system at the New Jersey AMA National. Same system used on the RMR DSB bikes. The full titanium system will cut a touch over 5 lbs. It is not as robust as a stainless system - as one would expect. Great place to shave weight - anything that does comes at a premium. FYI - DSMcG |
