I've run the rear down to the wear markers but the front is still fine. Would it be a big mistake to put a "mismatched" tire on the rear? The tires I am running at the moment are the BT-003RS. I gave them a try in hopes they would last longer than the CorsaIII but they did not. Any ideas on a rear that won't make the handling unpredictable or unsafe and yield some longer wear? I was thinking of going back to the CorsaIII on the back (winter prices at the Buell shop are low) or maybe trying out the Conti Road Attack (if it will last longer). What do you think? Bad idea or no big deal? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance. | ||

I've never had issues mixing tires as long as the stickier one was on the front. I'd recommend a Michelin Pilot Road 2. Hard compound in the middle, softer on the sides and you should get better mileage. | ||

If you're just riding on the street, having matching brands or type of tire shouldn't be a problem. I used to run a sport touring tire in the rear with the same companies supersport tire in the front for better wear. Some tires have a pointy profile and others have a very rounded profile. As long as they aren't on extreme opposites front to rear, you won't even notice. | ||

I would buy one more of the rear matched, then when it's time again,change them both. I had a Corsa III on the front, and a Pilot 2CT on the back... It worked ok, and I got used to it, but when I went back with a matched set it was like a brand new bike. It will work, but not as well as a matched set. R | ||

Carbon, What was the matched set you went to? Was it the Pirelli Corsa 3s? I found that when I wore out the stock Bridgestone front on my GSXR1000 and replaced it with a Michelin Pilot Power, it was like a totally transformed bike. The Power turned in so quickly. I plan on running Michelins on my CR once these Pirellis are worn out. I'll be running a Pilot Road 2 when the III wears out then I'll run a Power 2CT up front once the front wears out. |
