I got caught in some really misty foggy conditions yesterday and when I finally got back in the sunshine I stopped to get fuel and dry out.I wiped my instrument cluster off and noticed there was moisture trapped inside. The bike is parked in a shop and it never actually rained on me though I was soaked from the mist.Anyone else had this problem?Should I take it to the dealer? Thanks. |

I took mine to the stealer yesterday for the same thing and the service guy told me to leave it in the sun and it would dry. He also said it wasnt warrantied just because of the moisture. (Message edited by 03firebolt9r on January 23, 2010) |

I hate to say it, but this is normal. Replacing it will do nothing unless they have an updated cluster. |

Greetings Moosestang; What exactly is an updated cluster vrs. a non-updated cluster? Regards, sq. |

There is no updated cluster, that was my point. |

I have not tried,Danny.Like I say it never actually rained.I went from sunny and warm to foggy misty mountain top and then back down into sunny and warm.I thought the temp change might have been a contributing factor also. |

I wouldn`t try to seal it up unless you were 150% certain that it had dried out trapped moisture in electronics I would think is a bad thing |

If it's a 2008 R then they can fit the IC from the 2009+ models - these seem to be more resistant to moisture. My 2008 R has the same issue but it does seem difficult to persuade them to change it under warranty. But at least 1 has been changed in the UK so they have set a precedent ... |

Thanks Sportster_mann.It is an '09 model and the rear tire is already toast.I was thinking if they have a tire I might ride up to the dealer tomorrow and ask them about it. Lastone,I didn't think about sealing moisture in.I wonder if the moisture was always there but you couldn't see it until the chill made it condense? |

There IS an updated part, at least since my electronic parts catalog was created (July 09). And NO, it's not available (the electronic catalog). It's a dealer feature. Original part number for an 09 1125R cluster is Y0500.2AM. New part number is Y0500.2AMA. Backorder shows clear by 2/5/10 at the moment. My 2009 CR does the same thing, so a 09 cluster isn't going to help. Is there an updated cluster for the CR's? Just for fun I googled moisture in instrument cluster and this is one of the first hits, buell forum was the first, lol. http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=30886 I think anyone trying to get it replaced under warranty is chasing a rainbow, but at least it will cost Harley money. |

I saw a little condensation in my IC for the first/only time last week. I have had an 09 IC since September 2008. 23.6k miles. Zack |

Rode Peggy Red to the dealer in Bentonville today to get a new rear tire and ask about the cluster.Pretty good guys.JW in the service department called it in and gave me a reference number. He acknowledged there was an updated cluster and that it was on back order. His advice was to keep riding the bike for a while because I still had a lot of warranty left so I would get a new cluster nearer to the end of the warranty. He also told me HD said as long as there was no malfunction or staining it was not covered.I brought up the point that if I couldn't read it because of condensation we would have a safety issue. He agreed and said he could get me a new one based on that but I still decided to ride a while longer and get a new one closer to the end of my warranty. The tire and labor was $389.00 but they are having a winter deal so I got a gift certificate for $89.00 and bought Buell shirts and hats for 50% off.So really I got two hats and four shirts and a new rear tire installed for $300.00.Oh yea and a free bike wash, free internet(their 'puter) and all the free coffee I could drink |

Moose - that was my point. The original cluster for '09 is Y0500.2AM. The NEW cluster for '09 is Y0500.2AMA. They're both '09 part numbers. One's old. One's new. Same year. |

had rain earlier in the morning, but sun finally came out. i don't think anything can be done about this issue. i've had it happen several time already. today almost a third had condensation on it. i noticed if i leave the bike totally outside overnight it will definitely have condensation build-up. if i put it under roof or in shed it will begin to collect while riding. i have only seen it collect H20 while riding once and that was today. |

I have moisture in my cluster and noticed it on its first outing. Only show up if the bike has been ridden for around 1.5 hours. The bike has never been out in the rain or mist. So either it was in the cluster at manufacture or the crate was dunked in the Atlantic on its way over. I am due to have a new cluster fitted because of the engine/fuel light issue so will let you know in due course. |

I experienced the cloudiness in the instrument panel for the first time yesterday (1,500K). I think it was caused by coming out of a warmer garage and the cluster was exposed to the cold outdoors. The cloudiness went away later in the ride. |

My cluster has been fogging up for the past two year between January - April, It started on my 08 cluster so I up graded to the 09 and it started again. It rains here a lot but usually only happens when it not raining and its about 40 - 50 degrees outside. |

We have similar issues with condensation in auto headlamps, I am not at liberty to reproduce a complete document but will quote one section of a TSB. "Internal "misting" is generally caused by natural condensation and can be expected under certain atmospheric conditions. Vehicles that have been pressure washed may have had water forced into the headlamp via the headlamp vents, resulting in condensation forming inside the headlamps." The repair for this issue depending on it's severity, is to install a silica gel packet into the headlamp assembly or replace/install silica gel packet in the headlamp if it meets the warranty conditions described in the bulletin. @moosetang great link you posted! a small silica gel pack inside the connector boot at the bottom of the I/P with a small hole drilled, or adding a vent as suggested in the Ducati forum may help us all out with this situation. Definitly worth a try... Cheers, Mike G (Message edited by therealassmikeg on February 15, 2010) |

You might want to make a new thread, but make sure your battery has a sufficient charge. If the battery is near dead the cluster does crazy things like that. Also verify the connector for the cluster is good and not damaged. |
