After a couple of years running the Death&Doom exhaust I now have the sound that I wanted from the get go. I loved the sound of the Mrs old Monster and now miss it since it's been gone. I've had this can laying around for awhile waiting to get everything else I needed. Who can guess what brand this started out as? For a hint check the weave. I like all of ya'll wanted something more tucked under, so now the whole thing is under.
Don't get me wrong I love the sound of the D&D but there's a time and places to enjoy it and having that as an everyday can wear you thin.
This one has WAY more bass than anything else I've heard ,closest may be the Saron. It reminds me of a Ducati race bike with uhhhhh race cans. Although vids usually don't do them justice I'll post one tomorrow and try to get a driveby this weekend.
And yes I know ,the frame and swingarm are still blue. That will get done next month.
I like the naked look good job. As far as frame paint . Look into a epoxy enamel . Something that won't let gas ruin it. I can vouch for por 15 epoxy 2 part system .I used it on my engine bay on my mustang . I had a injector crack and fuel spray all over it. Left it for a day then hand scrubbed it all out . Not one stain. Post your finished pics when done.
dude that looks good tucked up nice, neat, and simple good stuff question, does it feel any cooler with the heat wrap? and is that a 190 or 200 tyre on the rear? just looks fat on my screen
Wow first response got the Two Brothers right. A heavily modified one now,5' shorter with exit tip cut off and drilled and tapped for the discs. A buddy of mine pulled it off an auction bike that he was putting back to stock and didn't want the can, score one freebie.
My original design was going to be a reverso with a venturi style mushroom cap, hence the block off and disc. The venturi cap at speed would act like a small turbo at speed and suck the exhaust out as well as the engine pushing it out. There's not much info out there about this, since like ram air, it's hard to prove on a dyno.
I'm a die hard reader of Streetfighters Mag for over a decade and there have been a couple of feature bikes with that set up. One builder did the reverso with cap on a GSXR 600 and could stay even with friends litre bikes up to the ton. So I've had this in my head for a few years.
Unfortunately that can was too big to tuck on either side. If that damn kickstand wasn't so far under the motor on the left this would have been the perfect place to clear the headers for undisturbed airflow.
So this was my next best idea, just keep it fully under the bike. It's funny ,when I first got the collector repositioned and welded and all test fitted it was time to hear it. I still had the discs mounted backward in hoping to do the reverso, so when started the exhaust was blowing to the front of the bike, strange how well those discs work.
The discs were off my old White Brothers from the S-1 and I have a sexy looking angled open end cap as well but that of course WOULD cook the tire. As it is it gets no warmer than the stock can with MM of gap from the tire. Later this morning I'll do some shakedown miles before meeting up the Hellbuellies tonight. I took it through the neighborhood yesterday evening but I'm really curious to see if there's any noticeable flat spots. It did seem to calm the ever present surging a little bit at low speed. I'm thinking the discs should help with the lean problem as long as it's not choking off my top end ,can't wait 'til the fog clears.
Oh yeah Mr Toys, the header wrap is in my opinion a better way to cut the heat. I can put a cover over my bike within 10 min after shutting it off. I've got Jethot on the Force pipe on my S-1, it helps but it still at least 20 min after shutdown before I could safely throw a cover on it. The tire is a 180 ,I roll fat on the S-1.
This is the first can that's tempted me for the '09R. I had a Supertrapp (end caps) set-up on my '00 X1 and loved it. I bet that must have shaved a few pounds as well ...
awesome blazin, keeep us posted to see how the ecu reacts to the exhaust.
after installing mine it feels like it need a bit more fuel around the 2500 to 3500 rpm i think it sucks to much fuel out down low for the computer to compensate
the factory one looks like it creates heeps of back pressure , but it does an awesome job in controling the dBs ,gotta give it that..
very good to people giving it a go , keep it up guys!!
Great to see that nice can repurposed. I like the sound. I had a White Bros on my X-1 for a while and it does sound good. I wonder if I still have that in the shed somewhere...hmmmmm. Maybe that would slip over the HMF merge.
Thanks guys, I was finally able to ride it in anger yesterday. I took a neighbor that has a sick ZRX1100(Muzzy exhaust, windowed engine covers,Ohlins, chromed and polished this n that)on one of my loops and when we got back he loved hearing me twist her tits more than the riding itself. Big compliment coming from someone with no Buell knowledge(first time riding with a Bueller) and he owning the awesome full Muzzy system.
All I can say is I'm EXTREMELY happy with the way it turned out. It seems to have gotten slightly smoother on the bottom end surging. It's by no means perfect but way better than before. After yesterdays romp I'd say that I didn't lose any top end. The other change I did notice before getting used to it is that it takes a split second longer to breathe in between shifts so it doesn'nt rev as quickly as the D&D but I got used to it and I'll take that as a trade off.
Capt. sure I'll come by .......just let me know when you move to Texas.
Here's a clip of a drive by through the chicanes in front of my house.
