I ended making my own eliminator for about 26.00 but i admit i went though one eliminator first... I bought a sportbikelites eliminator from ebay ... Its a nice setup except it has no provisions for the stock turn signals, and i felt the leds they provided were to small. So i bought a turn signal light bracket from cyclegear and used the factory signals. the cool thing is the sportbikelites eliminator has all 3 holes drilled and it looked really sharp. The BAD THING the damn plastic thats its made from isn't strong enough, or it was too damn cold, either way the license plate broke and fell into the tire. it smoked the tire for about 2 miles before finally spitting the plate out onto the road, (Riders behind me saw the smoke but weren't able to catch my attention right away) SO now i have a plate that has some cool scars, and when other guys ask what happen i tell them i was at a HD rally and some idiot on a HD did a wheelie and rear ended me...  In any case i would be cautious of Sportbikelites fender eliminator. the other stuff they sell is good and BTW their customer service is top notch. i sent pics of the damaged plate and the next day i had a full refund.. the woman claims i'm the first ever to have this issue... Oh i did have a few knicks on the swing arm but nothing critical and the tire probably lost 100 miles of tread..the belt was untouched which was good since i don;t have any guards on the belt.  | ||

i just machined my own bracket out of aluminum exactly the same as that plastic one from ebr.i wish i would have seen that earlier that would of been alot easier and probably cheaper and i could mount the bracket i machined right to it. | ||

So no chance you over-tightened the screws and cracked the plastic? I don't see how it would break on its own really. | ||

Nope not overtightened. the 2 rear mounting points are cut and bent to form the angle needed to mount flush. I did notice that it seems that the portion of the bracket that holds the plate just seem to move alot. I'm guessing with the weight of the plate, inspection plate and the plate trim, the bracket had enough leverage with added motion of wind and vibration to just break off (maybe the cold day made the plastic brittle, but it was in the mid 50's that day). the funny thing is i installed the trim on the plate since that was also advertise that on the ad for the eliminator. On a side note, when i tried to break the remaining piece of plastic to test its strength it just bent over and didn;t break. the bracket has a fair amount of nylon in it making it able to bend more than break. I'm stumped on why this happened , but it did. Maybe the plastic material used wasn't mixed properly and had more plastic in it than nylon... |
