I've completed my contemplated other uses for the American Sport Bike seat pins: As mentioned before in another thread, one pair of course holds down the seat; two more pair hold down the intake cover (outer airbox). Now another pair hold down the airbox base; and two more pair hold on the r/h radiator cowl. Pics:
The lanyard and clips at the rear of the airbox (for holding down the intake cover) have been deleted, and the pins adjusted lower in height; or installation is quite difficult.
The rear of the radiator cowl uses a single pin adjusted to minimum height, for alignment; using the lower one, or trying to use full pin height for clips, makes installation quite difficult. Allows checking the coolant level without tools. With this arrangement I can strip the frame down to the level of throttle bodies without tools. (Message edited by redscuell on December 28, 2009) |

Fantastic ideas. I need to try a set on the CR front fairing, as it is only two screws, so I can get in there easy to play with the wiring. |

Hmmmm. Me like. Wonder if I can find the screws you used at Ace or Lowes. |

That was so weird. I apparently was the first to respond to your post saying it was very cool. I also asked if you could post more pictures of your paint job as I thought it was the coolest part of your pictures. Did my post get deleted? Jeff |

You never posted it. Odds are you either never hit post when you were at the preview screen, or there was an error and you needed to try again. |

That's pretty creative ... Just how often are you stripping that beast down to its TB and frame?! Mike |

Do you own stock in American Sport Bike? That is quite the investment in quick release hardware at $20/pair! ac |

Nice ideas, and nothing against using the American Sport Bike stuff, but wouldn't it have been just as easy and more economical to buy some Dzus fastners? |

A couple hundred bucks in the quick release stuff to detach things that rarely need detaching? It's a novel idea, but I really don't see the point. |

I don't need to regularly take off the pods and airbox, but the front fairing on the CR would be great, as I often have that off. |

Whatever your opinion about Red, these are neat ideas and a useful contribution. I am likely to use the airbox cover idea, because I would like to be able to easily remove the tank bag straps. Thanks! |

I was thinking the right pod for coolant tank access being the most useful. What is under the CR flyscreen that needs such attention? ac |

Makes sense to me then. I was looking the other day for a spot to mount a power outlet that didn't involve drilling a hole in a $200 part. Still looking. ac |

Fresno, I'm a compulsive tinkerer. Why else, besides being basically crazy (you think I'm kidding) would I STILL be tinkering with a bike that I'll have to sell soon, now that I'm moving back to USA; because USA law doesn't allow me to bring the Buell with me (missing the required USA EPA sticker on the frame next to the steering head). |

I've yet to encounter any issues shipping a vehicle in and out of the US, I really don't think the USA EPA sticker is an issue going through customs. |

Red, I'm certain there's a few on here with info on how to get around that. |

For God's sake Red don't go and sell your bike because you don't have the sticker. I'm sure there is something someone can do. |

If someone needs several sets to do similar things, ping us. There is some overhead to printing the included instructions, assembling the kits, etc. We can do a fair amount better than $20 per set on a small bulk order, which is what we did with Red. Al |

The issue isn't a sticker, but the VIN number, which shows its not a US market bike. I am sure it would be easier to bring a bike over than a car, as it wouldn't need to be modified much if at all, but it still is a pain in the ass with the red tape. Red, if I buy a Maloo R8, will you throw your bike in the back and bring the set over? |

Red, Having spent many years bring in Euro Spec cars into the US and dealing with the EPA (I no longer do it) your bike would require an EPA emissions test by a certified EPA Testing Lab. This test for a car runs $6000 to $7000. The bike would also have to meet DOT compliance on lights, turn signals, dash board (has to read MPH as major speed readout)} and other items. Or you can bring it in as a race only bike with no compliance and I am not recommended this, but maybe you could use a dealer plate when you wanted to ride it on the street. Kajunman |

I hate to see Red part with his machine, but like Kajunman said, it's much more work and expense than most people realize. I've done it a couple of times, and only went through the hassle because there was money (resale) to be made doing it. That said, I can gladly live the rest of my life without doing it again. File under "pain in the a$$" ... |

I was under the impression that the EPA had a one time per life exemption on importing a vehicle that is non-compliant with US EPA regulations... |
