I didn't mean the "hard Claim" was a lie. I meant it as ( 185RWHP ) ARE hard numbers. EBR wouldn't claim it if it weren't easily backed up; like " here's the dyno, go run it if you want to" Now give us the money if you want it....
I'm sure the 1190 does have 185RWHP, it would be too easy to disprove if it didn't. Hell I want to see someone race somewhere/anywhere against Ducati 1198's and IL4 1000's..........And do well if not win....

"Hell I want to see someone race somewhere/anywhere against Ducati 1198's and IL4 1000's..........And do well if not win..."

That's been done a number of times already and with virtually stock 1125R racing machines.

The 1125RR finished three times in the top ten in only it's second AMA Superbike race outing.

It finished 3rd in a Canadian Superbike race beating a slew of IL4 literbikes.

In the French Supertwins series it cleaned the track with the 1198 Ducatis.

At Willow Springs it did the same.

If you care to look, you'll find plenty of race wins against the Ducatis and Japan Inc literbikes.

Now Erik needs to put some prices on his race bikes so I can be prepared for the 2010 race season.

That tail is going to require some led strips for the brake light. Notice how the brake light is on the license plate bracket.

I had the opportunity to ask the question "how much?" (for the spec motor) when I also emailed Erik last week. But I didn't ask. I kind of went into a lengthly letter to him, wishing him well in his new venture, etc., the email was prompted when I read about the spec motors on his race website. I almost fell out of my chair with the numbers those motors produced. Since buying the 1125CR last month and getting attached to it subsequently, I've been in the planning stages of upgrading it if and when the pocketbook permits, calling it the "Buell project". I also detailed these plans to Erik. Actually, I call it a hobby and I've had fun doing just that over the years to my Ducatis. But now that I'm semi retired, I don't know how far I can take this project when paying my monthly health insurance premiums is tough to do. Anyway, he responded to my email by thanking me for taking the time and effort to pursue this hobby and he also said,"its really cool you and others appreciate the 1125 as a platform to enhance with real sportbike accessories". What got me thinking about the spec 1125RR or 1190 motor is when he said, "if you ever want to build a really bad a** one to carry the stuff (upgrades), try one of our 1190 motors." Thats when that issue about race teams only came up when it relates to buying products from Erik Buell Racing. As someone here said, I don't think you have to present your race license in order to do business. Common sense and the law dictates what happens after the sale. At that time I started dreaming about slamming a spec motor in the bike, but then also thought, how practical would that be? I love riding the bike, why would I deny myself the fun of doing that? The stock powerplant is plenty strong, but the thought again of having even the low end motor is appealing. Maybe I'll shoot him a quick email this week and pop the price question, just to satisfy my curiosity. No doubt the motors are expensive.

Nevertheless it was great he wrote me back, taking the time to even read my lengthly email. If I had a word to describe him just by reading his email, its "gracious". I even told him word on the street indicated he was a great guy to work for. He did say a few things that reading between the lines told you what he was thinking, like talking about being held back from real credibility with HD motors and other related "baggage". Also in regards to some clueless and biased journalists that the 1125RR was a 1125R with a few hot rod parts like titanium valves, high comp pistons and cams. There was much more, but I'll leave it to when he said, "as you have guessed, we'll wait for that great golden investor who believes in that too, in the meantime we will in a small way hopefully bring some excitement to the racetrack here in 2010 and in WSBK in 2011".

I haven't heard of his plan to race in WSBK in 2011 yet, but here it is, news at 11, lol.

I honestly cant describe how excited i am to hear this, so i wont try. But one of the things im wondering is, if its makin 185 rwhp, what kind of torque does it have, and what does the powerband and redline look like??? I cant wait for some dyno sheets!!!

Ummm... I am as pumped as the rest of you at the prospect of a 185hp Buell engine but doesn't the competitions bikes make in excess of 200hp? A stock ZX10R makes pretty darn close to 175hp stock!

True, those extra 2 cylinders make up alot of ground, but we should have a weight and handling advantage over them and we should be neck and neck with the ducati's, the real beast is the bmw s1000rr it has 193hp STOCK!!!

I've been told by some well known guys that are prep n one for the drag strip that the bmw goes over 200 hp at the wheel real easy. I thank it's going to be a bad ass bike. time will tell

If I was in the market for a new I4 sportbike, The BMW would be top of my list. Its a bit more than the Japanese bikes but it looks and specs amazing

Don't fall into the trap.

*torque* is just as important as HP.

We dynoed a 600 somethingorother (I was working the showroom, not the dyno) the same day we did my CR 152 flash / dynos. While the 600 put out more HP (150ish) than my CR (143)...the CR blew it out of the water in tq. I was 81; he was 44.

I have no doubt Erik and the Elves have built in a torquey, properly-curved powerband to go along with the rwhp numbers.

Regarding the S1000RR, I was at the Team Hammer School at Daytona in October. Nate Kern rides for BMW and was on one of two S1000RR prototypes in the country and was guest instructing at the school. Great looking bike, I followed him around during a session. When we came in I asked him about the bike. He said his is an all-stock pre-production prototype. On pump gas, it dyno'd at 182 HP AT THE WHEEL. In his words "it's like cheating". He was running into the software governor at 186 MPH on the banking.

If force to go IL4, the R1 would hands-down by my machine of choice. It doesn't sound like an IL4. It sounds truly wicked.

Yea i cannot wait to see the dyno sheet, and just see what the 1190rr can do against the "big boys"

If i had to go IL4 it would definetly either be the BMW or the R1 for sure, however im not a big fan of the R1's looks, and the stock exhaust, and how the passenger has to rest their legs on the heat sheild of the pipes. But hopefully by the time im back in the market for a bike, buell will be back in the street bike game, and whoopin EVERYBODY'S A$$!!!

Ratbuell - that musta been one stout 600 to crank out 150ish Hp... like with a turbo and/or nitrous! Production 600's put out about 110hp at the rear wheel - your CR will never be in danger of being eclipsed by a proddie 600 - in Hp or Torque.

Ya just what kind of 600 makes 150 hp and only 44 ft lbs of TQ that don't even add up. all 600's I have dynoed where around 106 to 108 for hp and 43 to 47 ft lbs of TQ we had one with a few small tricks that made 112 hp and 49.8 if it was putting out 150 hp TQ should have been up to around 60 or so at least.

An older AMA Formula Extreme-spec bike would make about 140 or so but you're right the torque would be more than 44 lb-ft. World Supersport Spec 600cc I-4s are making 130+ easy.

Also depends on the dyno you're using, Eddy Current vs. Dynojet 250i, etc.

Being that HP is derived directly from torque, it really doesn't add up for a modern 600cc engine...maybe a 250cc engine revving to 25,000 RPM would have a power curve similar to that.

160HP would require that the 44ft-lb torque peak be at ~18,000 rpm. I'm not buying it.

I'd have to doublecheck. We didn't save the chart, I don't think, he'd just made a change to something and wanted to make sure his a/f was still in line.

I'm probably wrong. I do remember that it had high hp, though, and Blast-like tq.

That 17,500 rpm redline was a lie. The rev limit was actually 16,500 IIRC.
