So in my quest to find the best solution to adding a high bar kit to the R i also came across this Keyless Ignition system from Digital Guard Dawg... I was planning on just buying the CR upper triple clamp and the normal high bar kit. the problem is the ignition. its different from CR to the R. I haven't seen any photos for a CR ignition on a R model, but i'm sure it would look out of place. I am told though that it would work fine. So the next thought was to go ahead and swap the triple clamp, add the high bar, and then add this keyless ignition system to replace the need for an actual ignition switch. Now of course you lose the ability to lock the steering wheel, but maybe a disc brake lock could be the "other" safety measure. Input? Does the steering being locked that important?. Its not like i plan on leaving the bike for extended time in any one location besides my garage. Oh then the only other thing is to carry the keys for the tank and the seat or go with a keyless gas cap and forget about getting under the seat. Really the only thing keep a R model from having a simply high bar kit is the ignition ... |

What about the ignition security feature where you have to enter the PIN number? What about all the different modes on/off/park/lock? |

The security feature of the bike SHOULDN't be affected. the Key FOB with the security kit turns on the ignition once your within 10 feet and then you just flip your run switch on to start the bike. there is also a accessory switch that can be programmed for the park lights Basically this keyless setup just ditches the switch IN THEORY....its like having the normal ignition switch without actually having to turn the key. Only time i can see this MAYBE causing an issue, is when you wash your bike and you have the keys in your pocket. When your close to the bike the ignition will be ON. Of course if also has a feature to where if the keys aren't moving for 2 min then it assumes you set the keys down and will re secure the bike by turning off the ignition. Read up on it, its pretty interesting. |

Are you looking to change to the CR style. I am looking to change to the R style. Do you want to trade/sell parts? $339 seems kinda expensive. Wonder how much it was cost to get a custom CNC machined tripple clamp for the highbars. |

Well considering the standard CR ignition is 150.00 plus the keys.... its not too much more to just forget about the keys.. As for a CR setup, nope.......I'm still on the fence about swapping to the high bars, i just wanted to research all the possibilities. I love the R look. Just not certain if i like the riding position. Honestly this is not a swap i plan on doing right away... |

As for a custom triple clamp, i'm not sure, i do know the high bar kit for the XB offered by another company is 450.00 and i still believe you have to get the cables and the lines for the controls, plus grips and the actual bar itself.. oh it itsa not realy designed for the 1125.. i'm just using them as a price comparison. Convertibars are north of 400.00 once you get the lines and etc... but then you still have the old clipon mounts in the triple clamp.. Another option was around 650.00 for the setup and still needed a few odds and ends. This setup would be 750ish but have the feature of not actually needing your keys. It like the Mercedes Key Fobs. no real reason for the actual key. |
