At 620 service? Most engines do want synthtic oil. For 2-3000 miles |

It certainly shifts better and starts easier in this cold weather were having in MN with the syn3. |

I think the question is - is the 620 mile service too early to change to synthetic - or is changing over then the prevailing practice... |

Well, that's definitely not true in my case - I did a change at 53 miles so I know it has dino in it. I don't think anybody breaks in a motor with synthetic. Its just a question of when the motor is sufficiently broken in to switch over. |

I changed mine over at 300 miles. Right before I did my first trackday. Never had a problem. I run Amsoil if possible but will use Mobil 1 if I have too. |

I went with Syn3, saved the receipts, did the 620 myself. Dealer told me the bike came with "oil" oil, so whatever, it has syn3 in it now. |

You dont HAVE to run syn3 in it just FYI, and I dont ever run Synthetic, never have in any of my bikes, over rated in anything that gets changed as often as I am sure most do. |

Mine came with dino style, and I switched to Syn3 at the 620. I immediately noticed that finding neutral became much easier, and the whole thing just seems smoother. That's probably a placebo effect, but I feel better! Mike |

1125 comes with HD 20w-50 dino from the factory. I'm switching to Mobil1 20w-50 V-twin at 650 miles. Syn3 is not fully synthetic, it's a blend. |

The old "Wives Tale" is just that an old tail. There are so many good oils available, there is no reason to run non synthetic. Go online learn about the differences chose one and change it often. We use a syn cylinder prep oil on the rings and pistons and break all our engines in on the Dyno with Red Line. On race bikes we Dyno on Friday, practice on Sat and race on Sunday with no problems. We only go a little easy on the first practice session. Terry www.jtsperformance.com |

There's alot to be said about "less friction", I observed it myself when I put Amsoil 20/50 High Zinc Formula in my '09 R. It never broke the rear tire loose in straight line, dry pavement, 3rd gear accel before I put that oil in there. There has to be some kind of difference between the oils, Yeah? |

Planning on putting Amsoil in my bike as well. A friend put it in his Victory Jackpot and said he could tell a slight difference for the better. Also HD oil is bottled by some one else then their name goes on it. No major problems with the HD oil, but like Buelldyno_guy said there are plenty more out........ |

Just spoke to both Buell mechanic at my dealer and Buell CS} who confirm 1125 R and CR are shipped from factory with SYN3 in them and always have since the first production bike rolled off the line. They should only have synthetic oil used. Hope this settles the confusion bout this. |

Amsoil is good oil, always tests towards the top. Didnt know they had a high zinc formula, might have to check into that. Motul and Mobile One are good too. (Message edited by AverageJoe on November 21, 2009) |

AMSOil doesn't have a specific "high zinc" version - it's just that their normal motorcycle formulations are pretty high in zinc. Anyway, I like AMSOil (the 20w-50 is "MCV") and that's what's going in my CR when I conclude it's time to switch to syn... |

I am retired engineer for a major airline and was responsible for all the engine fleets oil program world wide. I suggest that almost any of them are better than non-synthetic. But again caution you to read on-line as to the different types of real synthetic's, as well as semi-synthetic or some types of synthetic blends. Check out the following at Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_oil Synthetic oil is a lubricant consisting of chemical compounds which are artificially made (synthesized) from compounds other than crude oil (petroleum). Synthetic oil is used as a substitute for lubricant refined from petroleum, because it generally provides superior mechanical and chemical properties than those found in traditional mineral oils. The two top types of compounds used by the name brand company's are synthetic esters and Polyalphaolefin or PAO's, almost anything else is a compromise of some type to lower the price. My only issues on the subject are from old time motorcycle or car guys who still believe synthetic is too slippery causing the rings not to seat or the bearings to skid, it's just not true. So now having said that, watch what you have to pay for and what you get. There are those who mix in a few syn compounds and raise the price way too high for what it really is. My idea is to buy my cars and bikes from those who make them, then after doing my homework, I buy my oil from the folks who make and sell oil. But no matter what I do or you chose to do, just remember to keep it clean. -Terry |

Regardless of who is right or wrong about the factory oil used... Arent we all glad that our dealers know so much about the bikes we are trusting them with! |

When we receive a Screamin Eagle H-D, it has a label on it, saying it has Syn3 in it. All the Harleys with no stickers, have Dino 20w-50 in them. None of the Buells have such a sticker. Therefore, all Buells have Dino oil. Logical resolution... kind of. Depends on H-D, I expect it to be that way tho. Zack (Message edited by zac4mac on November 21, 2009) |

yep, done a fair amount of searching lately. Pretty much sucks. Just search "De-Noid." There's one great thread on the site & the rest are all the same ranting & raving crap, & there's a lot of em. "Not searching" has been going on a lot longer than I've been active here. |
