the search function is down and i'm real close to buying a used buell from my local rice bike dealer. i have a few questions 1. i don't have any close buell dealers and i am concerned about the warranty work. is there a way to run VIN numbers on here and see what has been done to this bike? 2. is there any warranty left and can i buy the extended warranty through harley even if they aren't the ones who sold it to me? 3. will i be cooler on this bike than my white ultra classic? thanks for the help |

1. Yep, AFAIK they can (the dealer) check for anything done to it. 2. Need the make/model/year. That said, if it's still under warranty from the factory, you should be able to purchase an extended warranty from any dealer. 3. Yep. Maybe not as comfortable, but definitely cooler. Call any buell dealer with the vin # they can tell you what's been done and warranty status and recalls |

Get on the HD website. Go to the "owners" tab, then "Service Check-up" under that. Enter a VIN number (you will also have to enter the mileage, just put in something if you don't know what it is) and click on the "Get Check-up" box. It will tell you if there are any outstanding recalls that still need to be done. If the bike is up to date on recalls, it will show you the service interval due next and what has to be done. Hope this explains it good enough and good luck with your purchase. |

the model of buell wasnt relevant to the question....but whatever. all i see is the next service interval. do i take that to mean this bike has had all or none of the factory recalls done? i'm really just worried about the leaking clutch issue some have had |

Warranty left would also need to be checked with a dealer because, like all vehicles, the warranty starts when initially purcahsed. |

Model could help ID whether the bike is a model that hasn't been produced for 2 years (i.e. out of warranty). If it was, say, a Thunderbolt...they haven't made them since '96. PM me your VIN, I can run it for you to check warranty status and open recalls (I work at a dealer). |

That's what I was getting at, but I'm a jerk. Anyway, there is no recall for the the two most common issues, leaking clutch cover and rear turn signals. These items are repaired under warranty if it becomes an issue. Proactive recalls or "product programs" include ECM flashes, front brakeline re-route to outside of the forks, fuel vent re-route to the left pass peg. There was also an updated kick stand spring and the only "official recall", the 5th gear lubrication issue. As far as the cool question, I can't see you being cool if you were Ted Williams' room mate. |

ratbuell the last S3 Thunderbolt was made in 2002 NOT 1996 that was when the switched from the S2 to the S3 both were Thunderbolts but with body work and frame differences |

Answer to question 3: IMHO, if the ambient goes above 90F, park it ... or use leather pants. |
