I did my 600 mile service today... what a mess. I've done a lot of oil changes on a lot of bikes and I've never made as much of mess as I did today. Anybody else make more of a mess changing oil on the 1125 bikes? I found the kickstand to be in the way when draining the left side, I did put some tin foil around the kickstand to redirect the oil into my waste container. The right side wasn't bad, but the oil filter and the left side of the bike really sucked. Wayne |

First time is always the most difficult. Try putting the kickstand in the oil container. (Message edited by daggar on November 14, 2009) |

LOL my thoughts exactly, then I went into the dealer to get a rear signal replaced, and they said you know your first service was free!!!! Ohh well, they said they will do my next for free. But yes what a mess, someone said to use a turkey pan put your kick stand in it. |

Maybe I just need to get a different waste collection. The one I have has the strainer on top, so when idiots like myself drop the oil plug or other items we don't have to fish around in the hot oil. Now I can take that strainer off, but I would prefer not to have the kickstand sitting in the oil either. I will work on developing some better draining techniques. Wayne |

Just be prepared for the oil stream to shoot out 2 feet and drop VERY quickly to right below the hole. Left side. I drain the right side first since it shoots straight down. Then it doesn't go so far on the left side. Z (my first time was a real mess too) |

My technique: painting pan under the bike (kickstand should go into it), foil around peg, and a bent/folded piece of cardboard over the exhaust pipe so the the oil will shed on either side of it into the painting pan. Mess-free! |

Use a rear stand and you wont have to worry about the kickstand. The thing I noticed the 1st oil change is that the oil looked terrible like milky, silver nasty crap. |

Changed mine the 1st time today. Thanks to you guys it was smooth and clean! I did notice though that its tough to see the Amsoil on the dipstick. I put in the recommended amount and the oil pressure is right. I think it was the same way with the Mobil 1 in my mustang. |

Did my first today also. I will say that someone needed to do a little more planning in the oil change dept. Thank goodness I have a big pan that I could put the sidestand into. Only problem is I appear to be getting some weepage from the water pump weep hole. So far it won't leak when hot so I'm assuming a cold water leak. Not enough to leave a drop on the floor but twice I have cleaned a stain off the side of the case. I'll watch for now, fix if needed. Oil looked like oil does. Nothing special, although I was surprised to find there was very little fuz on the magnet. Runs like a scalded dog, and you gotta be careful in 1st, damn thing turns into a unicycle. Quick! |

Where is the oil filter? Is it an internal? Im thinking its on the lower left in front of the shift lever. |

Yes internal, yep lower left by the shifter, that "bump" with the two screws. |
