I got my bike from an out of state dealer, It was all prepped and ready to go. I decided to check the oil. Wow it was 3/4 of a quart overfill. I check as per the updated method and that is what I found. For giggles I checked on the side stand as per the owners manual and it was right on the mark. Are these bikes shipped from the factory with oil??? It is a left over 08, Maybe the dealer topped it off???? What issues can happen if it is over full being a dry sump engine.. |

I am no expert and frankly have trouble getting what I consider a good reading of the oil level but (my understanding) the procedure for reading the oil level accurately is to run the bike on the road for a few miles then stop and let the bike idle upright (not on the side stand) for 3 minutes then shut it off and wait about a minute and then check the oil level with the bike upright (not on the side stand). It's not exactly the most convenient method. |

I did that as I have a Handy lift so upright is not an issue. This morning after sitting upright all night I checked it and it is still fine, According to the cold method. My Busa has a sight glass and you check it with the bike upright. So I am figuring it was over full. |

Is it actually over the overfilled line? I think the 08's had a different dipstick, but on my 09 cr there is a huge gap between the full line and the overfilled line. About 1 inch of leeway on the dipstick. |

It was about 1 inch above the over full line. like I stated 3/4 of a quart. Now it is at the top of the fill line cold and upright. |

Just did my first oil change, the old oil almost filled up a gallon container ANOTHER good reason to do an oil change immediately...that and the fact that the oil in my '09 has been sitting in there for about a year now. My first early build '08 had about 3/4 to a full quart of extra oil in the engine when it came from the dealer. |

The very first bikes off the line were overfilled with oil , me , zac , and several others found that the bikes were overfilled from the factory , yours may have been one of those , just out of curiosity , whats the last 3 digits of your vin 3 ? |

It just gives an idea of how early on in production it was Mine is 114 if I recall correctly , Zac's was somewhere around there too , our bikes were as near as we can tell off the line the first week of production , like Nov '07 I would have thought the problem was corrected by then , but maybe not , heres just one thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/336958.html#POST1063187 |

whats the last 3 digits of your vin 3 480....and yes one would think the factory would have gotten a handle on the oil issues, but then again one would have thought it would have been dialed in prior to the first bike off the line. |
